Thanks for the answer. I've checked door sealing and it's ok. Contents in the fridge do not block air vents. I'm not much into tech stuff. What could I do to check and clean the coil? Concerning the fan or the temp controller should I assume that I need help from a technician or is it something simple?
I checked your user's manual and it appears there are no user-accessible coils, so cross that one off your list (FYI: on other fridges you would open the doors, pull off the bottom trim, and the coils would be under the fridge in plain sight; OR you would pull out the fridge and look at the back.)
One thing you might try: unplug the box from power, wait a minute, and plug it back in. It could be in "showroom mode," and this would reset it to operation mode. This is unlikely, but worth a try.
On the fan: can you hear fan noise often? If so, it's probably OK. If not, the fan is dead. You could replace it yourself -- go to GE's website and check out replacement parts. They have diagrams of every part of the unit that show you where such things as the fan are.
However, William Darter (below) has a point. You could have a bad defrost heater. It's more likely than a temp controller. Have you noticed a lot of fan noise recently, running for long period of time? That's a sign.
If so, empty the freezer, take out the shelves. You'll see a panel on the back wall. Remove a couple of screws at the top and remove the panel. There should be coils behind it. If they're covered with frost/ice, that's the problem. 90% of the time this condition is caused by a faulty heater. It's held in place by a couple of screws. Replace it. It's an inexpensive part.
If that doesn't work, 10% of the time the problem is caused by a bad logic (computer) board in the fridge. This is a major cost -- $300 or so for the part -- and a job you should not do yourself. The expected service life on both of these parts is about 8 years.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

turn the freezer up to highest setting and set the refrigerator control to about half way. this will block some of the airflow into the refrigerator.
SOURCE: freezer is not freezing, fresh food is not cold
you have a bad defrost timer or a heatting element.mif there is ice on the rear wall you will have to empty it and remove all shelves, pull the cover and you will see the heating element. it will be in a glass tube. you can see if its burned into, look for blackness inside the glass tube. when you install the new one be sure to put it so water wont run inside the tube, or it will burn out right away. good luck you can do this sawdust46
SOURCE: the freezer temperature is too high.
I've made a mistake before with thinking that I was setting the adjustment correctly on a refrigerator before, sometimes those dials are hard to read if there is a graphic scale, or symbols etc. Instead of numbers with the highest number being the coldest setting. Anyway make sure the temp setting is set correctly, these are found in the refrigerator side.(yes even for the freezer, so it does'nt freeze up) I adjust mine all of the time, things only need to be so cold right.(helps my elect bill) Make sure those special compartments have clear air passages to them. best regards.

Defrost the unit. The fridge section cannot cool if the freezer is iced over since the fridge gets its cold from the freezer. If you don't have a second fridge use a hair dryer to speed the defrost.
