I own a 2003 Honda CRV. I bought it used and no owners manual was provided with the purchase. I lost power to the car's system and the radio set itself in an anti-theft mode requiring a code to get the radio to function again. I tried pushing several buttons and now only get an "error" message. How do I reset this radio?
If you look in the glove compartment, there should be a white sticker with a 5-digit code.
For the 05 Civic
If you have an Error message the system rejects the 5 digit code. All you need to do is de-energize the system to get back to code mode. The easiest way to do this is to pull the 10 amp fuses out of the fuse block and then re-insert them. The system will now take the code.
The code is in the glove box or on the side of the glove box only for 2002 and above. For 2001 and below, the serial # is on the back of the radio and the dealer has to have that in order to get the radio code from Honda. The radio and air controls are all in one piece so the whole bottom of the dash, all the way across has to be removed to pull the radio. That's why they charge so much. I'm looking at just replacing my radio with a new one that offers free installation.
I have a 1998 CRV and the radio serial # was on a white sticker on the side of the glove box. I used the Honda site to retrieve my code, and it asks for the zip code and phone number and email address you used when you purchased the vehicle. However, when I entered this information, it said it was wrong. Since I have been to my Honda dealer for almost all of my service appts., I thought maybe that they have my CURRENT information on file, and BINGO - I entered my current info. and the radio code was revealed. I called the Honda dealer and they were no help!
BTW: I would hope that Honda removes the antitheft feature. I would prefer that someone steal my radio then to have to go though this annoyance! And who is going to remove the dashboard to steal a factory radio in the first place!
I have a 1999 Honda CRV. After having the battery replaced at NTB, the device they used to keep codes didn't work and my radio was dead. They told me to go to the local Honda dealer to get it reset.
Honda dealer told me it would cost $100 to get the dash taken apart. I wasn't pleased.
Google steps in. I came home and checked a few different hits. Though it says that my 1999 doesn't have a sticker, there was one in the glove box, though quite non-descript with a few letters and numbers. I went to the Honda website and found a link that allowed me to input my phone number, VIN number and the code from the glove box. Voila! It popped right up! I am so psyched! It just cost me a few minutes time on the internet to save $100!
Disappointed to realize yet again that the local Honda dealer didn't have better information (I even bought the car from them!). Good luck!
2002 CRV:Was able to locate original stereo code # on the underside of the outside fuse box cover(engine compartment). The code is a 5 digit number (numbers 1 through 6 only)and can be entered by pressing the appropriate numbers displayed on the stereo panel.If you are unable to enter any digits, start up car and pull the #9 fuse(AKA Back Up fuse, as schematically displayed in owners manual or on underside of outside fuse box cover). Reinstall the #9 fuse with the car still running and input code.
I have a Honda 2004.. with the same problem. Called the honda guys and they asked me for $150 saying tht the code is behind the radio and they need to take it out.. blah blah blah...
thankfully i dinn go to them...
i just found a 5 digit code in my glove compartment ( built into the dashboard, located over the front-seat passenger's footwell in an automobile )... and entered the code in my radio.. and Voila it worked!!! so look out for a sticker in ur glove compartment ... u might just need tht.

When you call 1-800-999-1009, you will need to give them your name, address, and phone number(the current owner), not previous owners.
And you will need to give the serial number as well, by hold the ignition key to position 2 (switch on), and press the radio to be off. Press 1 and 6 keys together, then press "power" button again. It will show you Uxxx Lxxx code.
Once you give them all those information, they will be able to give the code to you. Otherwise find the WHITE sticker on the side of the glove box, my glove box does NOT have such sticker, or previous owners removed it.
If all those does not work, you will need to go to honda dealership and pull the radio out, the code is on the back, this is costly. Good LUCK!

In addition to the other solutions offered here, I read in the Honda manual that once the ErrE message is displayed, the unit must be left on for one hour before the code can be tried again. Sure enough, by leaving the car in the accessory position with the radio on, the ErrE message went back to CODE. This time we knew the correct code and it's working again. This may not be any easier than pulling the fuse, but it's another option.
I tried the other suggestions on here, and this one was the only one that worked for me. It did take a full hour. After 55 minutes the ErrE message was still there, but at the one hour mark, CODE popped into the display. I punched in the 5-digit code (which was on a sticker in the glovebox), and everything works fine now. Thanks! My manual didn't have this info, so you must have gotten a better manual than I did. :)
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! to the person who posted this! I have been freezing my rear off trying to get the goofy spark plug out and trying all of the other tricks to no avail...ugh! This was all after standing outside of AutoZone waiting for my new battery to be installed. This methos DOES work...you just have to have a little patience! But, it is worth it to have your radio back and not have to take it to the dealership and have them charge you and arm and a leg to do the same thing. Thank you yalefamily!!!

I lost my radio code for my 2001 Honda CRV. The dealer wanted $90 to retrieve the radio serial number. I found a sticker inside the glove box with letters and numbers. I contacted Honda Customer Service and gave them my name, address, VIN and the number from the sticker and they were able to provide me with the five digit radio code. The number on the sticker was the radio serial number.
Guys, many thanks for solutions. My 2007 CR-V Radio suddenly displays "Enter Code" though I didn't change any battery. I checked the glove box as you guys suggested. Voila! A sticker has 5-digits security code and radio serial number (I guess).
Honda seems trying to lessen hassles for the customer after lots of complaints from older models. But, still no explanations about the security code on the handbook.
When entering the sec code, be aware of "Code" letters disappear and appear again without showing the sec code.

I have a 2002 Honda CR-V with the same problem, battery died and I did not get the code from previous owner. I hade Error showing on screen. I started up the car pulled the red 10 amp fuse ( shown on diagram as Backup ) then put it back in. I found the 6 digit code on a sticker on the glove box door, punched it in and radio came back to life!
Losing 12 volt power to the radio causes a problem in the Honda CRV when your swapping car batteries. To avoid all of the difficulties of getting your stereo radio working again after a power loss to the electrical system just get some jumper cables or long wires with clamps on the ends and connect the new battery to the terminal connectors BEFORE you disconnect the old battery when making a battery swap. That way you wont lose power during the swap and wont have to go through all of the hassle of gettting your radio working again.
Honda was going to charge me $96 (!!!) to pull out the radio to figure out the radio code. I've got a 2002 CRV and looked under the fuse box cover in the engine compartment like some of you said and voila! The radio code was there. Saved myself $96 bucks.

It explains where to find the code on your vehicle. It is on a white sticker "somewhere" in or on your vehicle. This could be as simple as the glovebox door, to the engine compartment to the inside of the center console.
It is a 5 digit code.
