Model MDB7749AWB. Why does it stop mid-cycle?

Starts the cycle fine,(have tried different cycles e.g. light, heavy, auto) But at some point it stops. The start light blinks as if someone opened the door. I push the start light and it seems to continue but soon it stops again and does the same thing. Once or twice it has gone on to finish the entire cycle. But the last couple days i have pushed start 3 times and it always stopped. So now I am handwashing. Everytime it stops I open the door to find that the soap has been used and the dishes seemingly clean but not rinsed well. There is always water in the bottom. If I push the cancel/drain button the water drains out fine. The thermal fuse was replaced a few weeks ago. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it seems odd that 2 things go wrong in such a short time on a machine that is less than 3 years old.

SOURCE: GE Nautilus won't drain after Rinse Cycle

Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.

SOURCE: Clean light flashes constanly. Won't clear out to start new cycle

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses, then repeats...

When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it will stop working and lock the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Dishwasher shuts off mid cycle

Hi Ray.
i found this out.
The reason for the dishwasher to stop mid cycle is that the thermal fuse is shorting out because it is either fouled, dirty, broken, or loosely connected. If your dishwasher is older, the thermal fuse is used as a safety switch to stop the motor and circuit board when the dishwasher gets too hot.

Why would a whirlpool duet sport model number WFW8300SW05 starts fine stops during cycle. No error codes door locked red light on water in machine.

you have a plugged or partial plugged drain pump for sure. maybe there is a 20 stuck in it this time! easy to find just follow the drain hose back and you will find your pump.
also could be the cycle your using has a bad area in timing cct. check a different cycle like the delicate cycle and that will confirm pump or cycle

Washer heavy duty cycle issue

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

Main Control Board

If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.

Timer

If the washer stops mid cycle the timer might be defective. This part is often misdiagnosed, check other components before replacing this timer.

Stops mid-cycle

Hi SaviorSound,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumbr.

Your question is: You have a MDB7100AWB that has been working fine for the last 7 years. Now all of the sudden it will not complete a wash cycle in any mode (including auto clean). It consistantly stops at 85 on normal wash & at 65 on light wash and then clicks/buzzes about every 3 seconds, like it wants to continue - but never does. Any clues as to what to try? Is 7 years all I can expect to get?

Perhaps. Your d/w is stoping at the point where it should be turning on the 'heat dry' phase. This can be expensive. At this point I would be compairing the cost effectivness of repair verses replacement. Wish I had better news for you.

STOPS RUNNING IN MID-CYCLE

Try placing something like a chair with books or heavy objects on it in front of the door. Tip it with objects under the front legs and place objects on its seat until the pressure closes the door and the dishwasher starts. Put additional objects on the seat to insure vibration doesn't make the door pop open. If the cycle completes, the problem is probably the door switch. If not, the problem may be with the timer switch. If it's the timer switch the dishwasher will probably stop at the same position each time.
