If you are getting a click, it's getting power all the way to the solenoid. Could be weak battery, bad cable from the solenoid to starter, bad starter or bad ground cable.

could be a safety switch or a ground problem check the ground for corrosion and make sure it is tight at all places then check each safety switch they usually have one for the seat,mower deck and clutch/brake pedal
You need to check that there is a 12volt supply from the low tention wire at the solinoid when the key is turned, if there is not either the switch is bad, or the wire from the switch is bad, or the fuse has blown.

If the solenoid clicks that means the seat switch is in good shape
The solenoid must lick loudly pushing the starter drive gear outward to the flywheel to mesh with it. When that happens the starter will turn over the engine
I think your starter is at fault. Inside the starter is magnets for fields for the armature. These magnets are epoxied onto the starters frame housing. If they come off which they do it will lock up the starter which makes it unusuaeble. A replacement starter is what you need if this is the case
Hi, is the deck engagement lever off or the pto switched off? If it uses a lever check the switch on the lever. If it uses a pto check the pto switch. Hope this helps, regards Phil.
starter solenoid,switch ,starter,fuse, or one of the safety switches--seat,blade engage satety, need to check the wiring or connections but start with the inline fuse than solenoid these two are the most common problem after a dead battery
When you are jumping it off from the solenoid, there is no power going to the fuel shutoff solenoid under the carb if your battery is dead. If you can't hear the click from the fuel solenoid when you very first turn the key to on, it's not giong to start by jumping other than through the battery.
