The dishwasher fills and drains about 3 times without going to wash mode. These 3 blue lights on panel blink, normal - heavy - and smart/auto. The book says it's a drain issue but the hose is free of obstruction and there are no visible leaks. I have not tried turning the breaker off yet. Would that reset the panel? Any help is appreciated.
I don't have an answer but I seem to have a similar situation... I also have a DW80F800uws/aa which also seems to function fine in terms of filling up and draining but it never gets to through a full wash cycle. It does 3 attempts or cycles with a fill, a short moment of a wash and then immediately drains completely out. It does this for 3 times and then it stops and flashes the SE/5E code (drain issue). This seems very similar to the above posted experience. The issue started shortly after I had a clogged sink drain that probably backed up the drainage of the dishwasher. That's all cleared up and drainage is good again. I've checked that all pipes are clear and the dishwasher appears to drain fine. The hose is high with a proper air gap. There were two small blade pieces left in the sump area so I've had to replace the food blade since that was an obvious issue. Otherwise everything else looked ok and clean. The pump motor works fine, I've even temporarily replaced it with a new motor with no behavior change so I sent the new motor back. In fact, I've done this temporary replacement on the water case brake assembly (although my old one is only 6 months old now), the main control board and the turbidity sensor too. No behavior change with any of them. I also have a new little black rubber check valve but as mentioned the water seems to drain fine. I also have a new thermo sensor which I left in despite not really needing it because I snapped off the old one's little locking tab by accident. So I'll keep the new one. So basically there isn't much left to look at. The only thing I can speculate at this point is a bad wire somewhere but haven't seen anything obvious. Anybody have any suggestions on what I can check?I don't have an answer but I seem to have a similar situation... No, there is nothing blocking the drain. Like I said, it fills and drains just fine as that is all it does, it will not proceed to wash mode. After filling and draining 3 times it stops and flashes the 3 blue lights explained above. Any other viable diagnosis? No, there is nothing blocking the drain. The mother board is going out, or the drain pump is failing. Try un plugging it...... by which i mean turning the power off to the unit and doing a soft reset. See if it recycles into the normal mode and works.
Which light blinks 4 times and pauses wash normal heavy etc if the model in the blue box is correct the to enter diagnostic press any 3 keys within 8 seconds I usually use normal and the 2 keys to the right all lights should light up if touch pad is up top where you had to open door to accomplish this then close the door after a pause the clean light will begin to flash example 7 flashes pause 1 flash these are your fault code it will do this 3 times for each code. The tech sheet should be behind the toe panel located below the dishwasher door which just repeats what I explained.
Unlock your Kenmore dishwasher control panel by pressing and holding the "Heated Dry" button for four seconds.
Press a series of four buttons in quick succession. Press "Heated Dry,"
"Normal Wash," "Heated Dry" and "Normal Wash" to instruct your Kenmore
dishwasher to run a short diagnostic test
Wait for two minutes while your Kenmore dishwasher runs its diagnostic test.
Press the "Cancel/Drain" button once your dishwasher has completed its
diagnostic test. This should reset your dishwasher control panel and
stop the "Clean" light from blinking repeatedly.
Good luck.
It is probably because your Smart Dispenser is full of water and there may be a clog of some type in the pump. Try purging your Smart Dispenser and see if it fixes the problem!! It fixed ours!!
How to Purge Smart Dispenser
The
purge routine operates the bulk dispenser pump continuously to drain
the bulk dispenser tank when an incorrect liquid was poured in the
tank. The process consists of setting up the dishwasher to run the
purge mode, running the purge mode and then cleaning up the purged
detergent.
Follow these steps carefully to have a successful purge run.
For Top Control Models:
Make sure Pre-wash, Added Heat and Heated Dry LEDs are off.
Press Heated Dry and Down Arrow buttons together for 3 seconds. All LEDs will illuminate.
Press Added Heat and Up Arrow buttons together for 3 seconds. The Anti-bacteria LED will illuminate
Press Start button one time
Select Normal and make sure Pre-wash, Added Heat and Heated Dry LEDs are off.
Press Start button one more time and dishwasher
will run a complete cycle without the main motor running. Cycle is
complete when the Clean light illuminates. This should take
approximately 60 minutes.
Open door and wipe up excess detergent from the door and tub
Flush remaining detergent off by pouring water on the door and tub where there is detergent residue.
Remove SmartDispenser cap and fill tank with water and then replace cap.
Repeat Steps 1 through 9 one time.
Then, repeat Steps 1 through 6. When the Clean
LED illuminates, the system is purged and ready to be refilled with the
correct detergent.
Front Mount Controls (same as above except for the changes in the two below steps):
2. Press Heated Dry and Cookware together for 3 seconds. All LEDs illuminate.
3. Press Added Heat and Cookware together for 3 seconds. The Anti-bacterial LED illuminates.

This is what I found for the E4 code...hope this helps...and thanks for rating my effort...The Fang.
Machine won't fill or won't fill high enough(LX18, LX30 display shows "E0," "E2," "E3," or "E4")
1.Low water pressure — check for clogged hose strainer; check that site water pressure meets minimum flow pressures. 2.Make sure probes are clean. 3.No water pressure — main water supply valves may not be working. 4.Drain valve open - turn machine off to drain machine, then on. Repeat twice (this assists in clearing any drain valve obstructions). Wait for machine to reach READY mode and press WASH. Slowly open door several seconds later and note water level. Close door; 30 seconds later, open door slowly and check that water level is the same as it was. If not, repeat the OFF-ON procedure. 5. Delime machine.
A clean indicator that flashes/blinks 7 times and then repeats, indicates a problem in the dishwasher which should be investigated and not just the control 'reset'! That is why the control will not let the dishwasher start once such a condition is detected.
If the dishwasher's eletronic control doesn't detect a water temperature increase during the main wash cycle, that symptom can occur. No water temperature increase could be caused by a problem in the heater element, its in-line thermostat, the related wiring or a problem in the electronic control.
It is also possible just the washer not spraying properly (possibly from blockage in the filter or problem in the pump), the dishwasher not filling sufficiently or draining prematurely or even a problem in the door latching mechanism's switch(es) could cause it.
*Some actual investigation should be undertaken to isolate and correct the cause of the symptom.*
Once corrected, the error display may have to be cleared from the control manually. That can usually be done by putting the unit into diagnostic mode by pressing the key sequence 'Heated Dry, Normal, Heated Dry, Normal' and then pressing cancel.
Bosch dishwashers have a seperate pump for washing and another for draining. Try making it fill more than once. There is usually a timed fill and the float stops it before it overfills It also might prevent it from washing without enouth water Try defeating the door switch and play with the float during fill. There may be a sensor that won't let it go into wash. Be prepared to get a little wet if it should start up suddenly. A slightly safer way is to fill it with the sprayer from the sink. and see if it will go into wash.
is all the water draining from the tub? if not the pressure switch will not reset and it will continue to try and clear it self...check drainage system.
2. pressure switch is jammed on..build up in the sensing chamber..common..or switch faulty...rarely
3. if water is in the bottom panel most have a flood switch which automatically operates the pump in case its over filling
