The time-delay does not work

Hello fradymg,
If you are speaking about a hard disk drive built within the last 20 years, then the hard drive is not meant to be opened.
(Way back in 1975 I worked on hard disk drives that could be repaired or adjusted by a qualified technician).
I have three suggestions:
(1) I presume the drive is already out of the computer.

• Buy a new hard disk from a local computer shop.
• Install the new one.
• Connect the data cable.
• Connect the power cable.
• Switch on the PC;
• Insert your Operating system CD and re-install the OP system.

(2) If the data on the drive is *very, very* important:
Take your drive to a good computer shop and they will attempt to recover the data.
Note: this is generally VERY expensive.
(3) Take your computer to the computer shop and have the technician install the new hard disk and also the operating system.
This option will give you a working computer in the shortest delay, at only medium cost.

This error typically occurs when the "Enable write caching on the disk" feature for your hard disk is turned on.

However, if the "Enable write caching on the disk" feature is turned off, this error can occur because the Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller may be configured in either of the following ways:

• You are using a 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.
• The BIOS settings are configured to force faster UDMA modes.

Check if drive letter associated or a folder in MMC disk management

ONE BAD LEAD?

try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive one bad lead will cause a computer to shut down

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?

What you have listed isn't a hard drive, It's a flash drive and it is practically indestructible by a common drop, If you can plug the drive in and access it then the drive is working correctly. If it does not say something like " Insert disk in drive E: " when you try and open it once again chances are the drive is working fine. The last time you connected it previously to dropping it you might of removed the drive before it was done. Some times Windows does not write the files right away if the computer is also busy, this can cause a delayed write failure to occur when you remove the disk before it has written the file down. If you plug it in and the computer does not see it or you get the stated message I wrote above then it's broken physically. If you can still write new files and read those then chances are you missed a write window.

Try 2 things....1) replace the IDE controller cord or the SATA cord whichever applies. If this doesn't fix the prob try downloading latest mobo updates as well as any Acer updates for your specific model. Let me know if any of this works.

verify your bios settings with regards to what the pc is expecting in way of hard drive.
Do you have the luxury of another hard drive that you can try on this pc ? - this will 'suggest' where the problem rests.
Make sure the lead is fully located on the back of hard drive.
If possible - change the lead for a 'known working' lead (Maybe from the computer that your hard drive was recognized in)

Delayed opening issue of your hard disk was not being affected by a viruses. It is a hardware problem. Your problem sound bad cluster. If you are using Windows XP try to defrag it by using deframentation system.

You can access that by the following command or procedure. Click Start> Program> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter.

After opening the system, select the hardrive detected and click defragment.

Defragmenter are working to fix any bad cluster available just leave it while waiting until done.

Your symptoms sound like a slow hard drive. The first time you run Word or some other program the PC has to read the file from the hard drive into memory. You have enough RAM so that the program is still stored there till the next time you run the same program. When you run it again RAM is much faster so you experience the increased speed. This is fairly typical behavior for a PC; in fact one of the big industry discussions right now is how Vista with its huge operating system is really going to strain the limits of traditional hard drives. While Word can take anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds to load on a typical PC Corel Draw is a much larger program and takes considerably longer. Things that could affect your hard drive speed: - It could just be an older hard drive. Generally the smaller the hard drive the older and slower it is. If you hard drive is smaller than 20 GB then an upgrade will boost your speed - Your drive may not be configured to work as efficiently as it could. If you?re using IDE hard drives make sure the channel is running DMA not PIO. - Your drive could be heavily fragmented. I?m generally not a big fan of defragging since the results are seldom worth it. In you case you may get enough of a boost to make a difference. Make sure you have a backup just in case something goes awry. - Drive interface, IDE is the slowest, next is EIDE and the fastest is Serial ATA or SATA which is replacing IDE/EIDE on newer motherboards.

If they ask, you can explain that you had a technician replace a faulty hard drive on your owned receiver and you need to reauthorize it. You will discover this when you power up with the new drive. The new drive should fix the delay problem. You will also need to set up your remote for your TV through the Remote setup menu again unless you remember the code (I can't). When you access the remote setup, the instructions will be displayed on the screen. Just scroll down to your brand of TV and input the different codes one at a time until you find one that works.
