Alright you came to the right place. My wife doesn't want an antenna on the house so I stuck it in a tree. Here goes. First you nedd to get up in the tree as high as you can without falling or breaking any branches. This is how I did mine. My son and I got up the tree and set an antenna l bracket into the tree to set the antenna on. Then we set the antenna on it and secured it with metal strip banding ( you can get it at Lowes or home depot) About 2ft from the bottom of the antenna attach one end of the band to the treeand wrap it around the tree crossing over the bottom of the antenna. Now move up about 4ft and attach another band in the same manner you did on the bottom. Make sure you have enough coax and connect it to the connector on the bottom of the antenna . Connect the radio and you are set to go. that simple

How do I mount the base for the universal antenna?

are you talking about one for satellite antennas? there are normally 4 or 6 lag bolts that go into the roof of the house. and you adjust the L shape bar to be vertical... they can be used for cb base antennas. not the actual satellite antenna but the mount can be used.

What antenna

If you cannot use a magnet mount antenna on the roof then a fiberglass antenna (top loaded) about 4 ft. tall mounted behind the cab on the bed rail. You can usually run the coax thru a rain drain hole in one corner of the bed. The antenna should be tall enough to where the top third of the antenna is above the roof. The taller the ant.is the better the SWR will tune.

Whats the best antenna and location on an f250 ford p/u ext cab superduty

Something like either a Wilson 1000 or 5000 magnetic mount on the roof--coil and whip unit detach as needed.

What parts are needed for installing a 102" CB

1. swr meter
2. mount. for a car.. make your own.. YOU DON"T NEED A BALL MOUNT... any mount will do.. just make sure it can handle the stress from whipping in the wind and hitting trees.. lol.....just make sure to keep away from body @ least 12" for better swr's.. DO NOT put right up against the body. unless its on top of trunk or roof.. or a tool box. if on a pickup. the stack pocket is a good distant away from the cab to work.. do not put right up agianst the bed near the glass it will give high swr's because of the roof is right there.
3. cables.
4. make sure it has a good ground. clear of any obstructions. like body panels..

When explaining that an antenna needs to be 'gounded', does this mean that the bracket the antenna is attatched to needs to be actually hard wired to the vehicle frame or when using a magnetic mount...

Hi, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. Yes, That is not sufficient enough for your antenna. Need any further information let me know. Thanks for choosing FixYa...John

I can't get the swr value close to 1 it's over 3 what am i mising

Several things are working against you.
1 Antenna location= Needs to be in CENTER of car or truck, and high. no grounded metal can be next to the element (the hot/positve part of the antenna)

2 the only way to really ground the antenna is by having a flat metal ground plane under the antenna. DC grounding does NOT do this, that is a misunderstanding.

3 make sure you use a tunable antenna. I have found the wilson's to be very easy to tune and performe very well, for a base loaded antenna.

4 in short a wilson or k40 magnet mount placed on the very top of the roof in the center will have a perfect ground plane. Then shorten or lengthen the steel whip to ajust your SWR's. You will get the best results this way. This is the ONLY way to achevie good performace.

5 I will say this the absoulte best antenna is the 102"steel whip, if you got the clearnce and dont mind it hitting tree limbs put it on a big magnet mount with a spring at the base and youll have a perfect antenna. But the wilson is shorter and easier to tune.

I have a pickup with a fiberglass bed cover, inside is a Cobra 29. When the k40 antenna is on the bedcover (magnetic mount w/ 6x6 inch metal plate glued to the bedcover) radio will give me an antenna...

Well, the k40 is designed for roof or trunk mount, you would not be getting a good ground, plus you would be getting feed back from cab,no good transmit or receive. Get a good 102" fiberglass or steel whip that's bumper mount, mount it on right rear bumper and you will be good to go.

How do i install a cb radio on a pick up truck

You will need a CB radio antenna, The CB radio and mounting hardware as well as the power wire.

Choose a place to mount the radio. Mount it. Run the power wires from the radio to the fuse box. Put red wire in with the fuse that is hooked to switched 12 volt. Ground the black wire to any metal of the vehicle.

Next find a place to mount the antenna. If you use a mag mount, the roof of the cab is a best bet. Run the wire into the vehicle, it can go through the door, just make sure its not going to get pinched.

Hook the coax from the antenna to the radio

Now you have to tune the antenna. this is important because if you don't you you will blow the transmit final transistor out in the radio.

This link will take you to an article that will explain how to tune your antenna.

What antenna would you recommend for my cb? cobra 29ltd

depends on what vehicle its going on. If its a car, you don't need anything crazy, unless you are going to run a linear.

You are fine with a wilson 500/1000 mag mount or a k40 mag mount.

just make sure you tune the antenna for lowest SWR.

I have a 03 f 250 superduty v 10 i would like to know how to know where to drill hole in roof and how to run coax wire to cb

all vehicles normally have spot at the dome lights. to put cb/ham/commercial antennas. but some ford trucks have a center rib on the roof which sometimes would have to off-center an antenna. on newer trucks. I would use the ham NMO mount that has the 3/8" hole (not3/4") and use a wilson 1000-5000. or tram base load antenna.. depending on power wattage needed. we normally carry the 3/8" mounts they have coax and pl259 connector on them. look us up. lowest prices guaranteed.
