Move the hour hand counterclockwise two hours back and then just move the minute hand clockwise until the correct time is set.

SOURCE: Strausbourg Manor Wall Clock chime adjustment

It is normal for the average wall clock. Of course, this can be adjusted, but without watch/clockmaking knowledge it is impossible, because first you need to find out which part of the movement is causing early chiming - and there are plenty of them.
Super fine adjustment can be found only in top of the range clocks. Hundreds of hours of craftsmenship are spent to adjust and fine tune them. That's why they cost a fortune.
If you can not live with that early chiming, you have to bring your clock down to the watch/clock repair shop and ask for help. Be ready to pay quite a money, as this job takes the skill and a lot of time.

SOURCE: How do you syncronize the chimes to the actual

Are the hands held on by a nut? usually you can remove the nut with your fingers or a pair of pliers wrapped in cloth or duct tape to prevent scratching.
Before removing turn the minute hand (minute hand only and clockwise only; do not manually turn the hour hand and never counter-clockwise) turn the minute hand clockwise until it chimes at an hour mark.
Then remove the hands and and place them pointing to the correct time.
If you are uncomfortable with this I recommend taking it to a clock shop or jeweler that sells clocks. If it is inherited, it may need some maintainence (oiling and regulating) anyway.

SOURCE: I need a Howard Miller battery mantle clock

Try www.klockit.com. You can replace the entire movement for about $5 including new hands. You can select from an assortment of hands that will probably match the style of what you have and use those if the old hands don't fit the new movement. I've bought several movements from them over the years. For a few more dollars you can upgrade to an "atomic clock" movement which synchronizes with the US time signal and even sets DST automatically.

My clock chimes about 5 minutes before it should on the quarter hour

If only on the ¼ hour, but not on the others, there's a worn or chipped geartooth. If All of the chimes are 5 minutes off, you can usually adjust the position of the minute hand to correct it. You may have bent, or wore the 'd' shaped hole in the minute hand by aggressively turning it to set the time.

Howard Miller grandfather clock keeps good time but chimes are off and five hours late

If you need to ask how to fix it, it probably means you shouldn't be tinkering with it.

You have something that represents a fair chunk of money and it would be wise to consult an experienced horologist about your problem or perhaps consult the manufacturer.

The cure might be as simple as removing the hands and putting them back to coincide with the chimes but it is presumably a fault that developed over time. I doubt the hands moved their relative positions by themselves but rather something inside happened.

Owning a mechanical pendulum clock is a hobby that requires some basic knowledge about how it works and how to care for it. The hands should never be turned backwards, for instance. Changing the time for daylight saving means either stopping the pendulum for an hour or advancing it by an hour and pausing at each quarter to allow the chimes to sound fully. Any mistakes will mean winding on many hours or stopping the clock and waiting.

My Howard Miller wall clock Westminster chimes is one hour off. ie: It chimes twice at 1:00 Any suggestions? I have it for at least 25 years and never had this problem before. Thanks! Stacy

Gently move the hour hand to the 2 O'clock position, then using the minute hand cycle the time forward until it is at the correct time.

My clock chimes the correct amount of chimes on all hours except 7. At 7 it chimes 5 times

In a quartz movement clock, with a problem like this, the chime box (or whole movement) will need to be replaced. Timesavers.con carries a large selection of chiming quarts movements.

Howard Miller Christopher Quartz mantel clock chime adjustment

Try pulling the batteries out, set the clock to 5:45 then put the batteries back in. Set the time to 6:00 and count how many times it strikes. If it strikes 6 then your good. If it strikes a different number say 5, take the batteries back out, and set the clock to 4:45 then put the batteries back it, set clock to 5 and count the strike. Most quartz clocks reset their chimes to 5:00 when new batteries are installed regardless of the time shown on the face. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

How to reset clock chimes

The next time it gongs multiple times turn the hour hand clockwise until it is pointing at the number of times it gonged. Next take off the dial nut off (make sure to put it in a plastic bag because they can be hard to replace) and turn the minute hand until it strikes signaling 15 minutes after. Now put the minute hand back on pointing to 3 o'clock and replace your dial nut and you are all set.
