After you get to the site, and if this is your first time, you'll need to set up an account. After you have done that, you can proceed to register your TomTom device by connecting your GPS to your computer ... using the MyDrive tool (or the MySports tool for watches).

If you go to the tomtom website select support and enter the question in the search area "cannot get signal" it will offer a complete walk through of testing the device to see where the issue lies. Basically in the menu there is a screen showing the satelites being received or if none are being received look in the corner for a spinning disc symbol. If the disc is not spinning then there is a problem with the device, reinstalling the application program may help but follow all instruction from web site ensuring you do a backup first. Also check that you have not accidentally selected Flight Mode from the menu as this turns off satelite function as it is like a mobile phone on a plane. Ensure flight mode is off.

There is no downloadable manual for the VIA 160 on the Tomtom web site yet.

However, install the Tomtom HOME software package available HERE on a PC. A link to an on-line manual is on the second menu page.

1. Try rebooting.
2. Only plug in USB link when Windows is up and turn on the tomtom first.
3. Install Tomtom home from their site.
4. Try another USB lead, not the tomtom one (just in case that one is the fault.)

Finding a GPS signal
In the following cases it can take up to 5 minutes to find your current position:

• You use your TomTom device for the first time.
• You haven't used your TomTom device for a longer time.
• Your TomTom device has been relocated without using it (e.g. after travelling by plane or train).

If it takes longer than 5 minutes, make sure that you are in an open place without tall buildings or trees around you.
Once your TomTom device has located your current position, theDriving View is shown in full colour and shows your position on the map.
Tip: Most TomTom devices can use QuickGPSfix™ to locate your current position faster.

The tomtom GO 300 does not need an installation disk. It has firmware ( thats a sort of pre-installed software ) that is put on it at the tomtom factory. If the firmware has become corrupted it can be reinstalled or "updated" by logging on here > http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17 then click the DOWNLOAD TOMTOM HOME Link. Then connect your tomtom to your computer with a USB lead. Run the TomTom-Home software you downloaded and select "UPDATE MY PRODUCT" . After that , if you don't already have one you will need a valid SD card for your tomtom containing the maps for your country and some other activation codes which you get when you purchase maps from tomtom.
