I have an older healthrider treadmill that won't actually turn on. The console lights up, but the belt won't move or respond. How do I determine if it is the moter or another problem?

Check out The treadmill Doc. Fantastic site and great people to do business with. A lot of helpful trouble shooting information for free! I'm betting it is the motor control board. Site will lead you through step by step instructions to check and fix it yourself. I saved a ton of money and with a little know how and good information you can too.

SOURCE: Belt slipping on treadmill

This is caused by one of three problems. First and most likely, the walking belt is loose. To tighten the belt, start by locating the two bolts that adjust the rear roller (one on each side of the unit in the back). Run the unit at about 3 mph. Tighten the bolts a 1/4 turn at a time. Make sure that what you do to one side, you MUST do to the other side or the belt will get off center. After you tighten it 1/4 turn, check the belt to see if it is still slipping. If it is then tighten the belt 1/4 turn again. Continue until the belt does not slip, but do not tighten the bolts more than 2 full turns. If it takes more than 2 turns then something else is the problem. The second problem that it could be is the drive belt might be loose. To tighten the drive belt, start by removing the front cover. loosen the bolts around the motor then tighten the drive belt by tightening the motor adjuster bolt. Once the drive belt is tight, tighten the motor back down. The third problem that it could be is the walking belt could be worn and need to be replaced. Let me know if you have any questions.

Why won't myHealthrider Treadmill console lights up, but belt won't run?

There is something wrong with the panel connection to the belt. Get the panel looked at or buy another treadmill. Everything is made to last a short amount of time these days.

My Healthrider has been outside on the covered back porch for a couple of years unused. I've just plugged it in and the console lights up, however the belt isn't moving.

Moisture destroys those things when left outdoors. Motor could be seized up or rodents could have chewed up some wireing is the first thing that comes to mind.

Healthrider S500i HRTL12990 belt won't run

HI,
If you can then before replacing the Motor control board do one thing. Replace the IGBT on the control board. Igbt is the component which drive the motor. It will not cost a lot. The only thing is you should be very careful while working on the motor control board because there you can see two capacitors which is capable of store charge for a long period of time even the treadmill is unplugged. Before doing work on the control board you have to discharge the capacitor. If not it will lead to serious electric shock. You will get many pages on web to know how to discharge an electrolytic capacitor. I have add the picture of the motor control board with the igbt marked. You can find the part number written in its frond side. Replace the IGBT first.
