Phone line ok. Been working for years, no problems. Suddenly can't receive or send fax. Tested phone line that is working fine but though you get a dial tone on the fax, it won't dial out.

Hello there, Suggest you confirm the phone line (The one going to the wall...) is plugged into the phone line port labeled -1-Line- and not -2-Ext- 1-Line is the outer most one of the two on the back of the machine.
If it's in the wrong port the device to act in the manner you discribed.
unplug machine, press and hold the "stop/clear" key and while holding key down, plug machine back in and continue to hold the button for 5 seconds. that should take care of problem.
Make sure the phone cable is connected correctly and verify that the phone line works by connecting a phone to it.
Make sure that your recipient's fax machine is turned on and working.

Hello, I can send faxes from my HP Fax 1010, but cannot receive them. I can dial the number from another phone but it will keep ringing and the machine never picks up. We have tested the phone line and all seems well. Is there some setting on the fax machine itself that I need to change in order to receive? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Plug a phone into that line and see what happens. Let me know what happens. Plug the phone into the line that goes into the fax machine. Make sure it works and is clear. No static or noise.
If you have had a power outage or spike, it may have reset to factory settings. You have to go into you menue and find the fax settings mode. Go to the receive, make sure it is set to auto.If not you may have a tx/rx board problem.
