I have vivitar binoculars about 20 years old, there is a crack in one of the lenses. Like to find out how to get fixed. I do not mind paying.

The only # I can find on them are 7 by 42, and 8100180.

Well, actually Vivtar is not a big deal as a brand.. Having said this, best option to take it to an optical store where they actually can tell you if it can be repaired and where it can be repaired.

Vivitar binoculars housing very sticky old but never used

I have had a similar experience with Bushnell(NOT Vivitar). I called them and they offered to replace/repair them for a shipping/handling charge. If I remember correctly it was between $15 and $20. After pricing new ones, this seemed like a good resolution. I sent them in(my cost) with a check for their S & H. A few weeks later I had new ones from the manufacturer. I think there were a few years when the industry was using a "special armor coating" which turned sticky after a number of years.

If you're willing to settle for a free download instead of buying a CD, you can go here and then click on the "Vivitar Experience Software" link. You can also download a copy of the manual from the same page.

Carl zeiss notarem df 10x40 mc binoculars out of alignment

The East German Notarems were a little fragile when compared to their West German counterparts. They didn't require too much of a knock to get them out of alignment. To collimate them you need a device called a collimator and its not something you do at home. The Notarem is not an easy unit to take apart. It has a unique locking dioptre ring that is mated with the central focus.

They are definately worth fixing. Not cheap but then again they are not a cheap binocular. You should consult an optical shop in the country where you live. They may know of someone who can fix this. If you are in the UK or don't mind sending the binoculars for repair Kay Optical in the UK has an enviable reputation for repairing old binoculars.

Water spots inside lenses

On the whole, I'd advise against dismantling binoculars yourself. Unlike most other optical devices, alignement is really important because you need to feed the same image into both eyes. If you're going to end up paying someone to realign the instrument, you might as well get them to do the cleaning at the same time. A.
