Had exactly the same issue - working fine until ink cartridge changed (kodak for kodak - not a copy). Then can only get 'print head error message'.
Multiple attempts to remove and re-install, power on/off etc. but can't shift the error message. New print head more expensive than a new printer!

The print head is the part of the printer that the ink cartridges plug into. It is a replaceable component. It is possible that when you replaced the black cartridge you may have inadvertently dislodged or unlatched the print head assembly. Check your users manual for printhead replacement procedures. You can attempt to remove and replace the printhead in an effort to get the unit to recognize it properly.

I have replaced all my ink cartridges, colour printing fine, black won't print. Have replaced black cartridge again, incase the last one was faulty and it still isn't working. Yes i am using brother...

If one or more of the ink colors are missing from pages printed by your machine (i.e. received faxes, copies and/or documents printed from the PC etc), nozzles in the print head may be clogged, or the ink cartridge in question may not be installed correctly. Verifying that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and/or cleaning the print head may solve the problem.

Instructions here: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/as/au/en/faq/faq/000000/000700/000035/faq000735_004.html?reg=as&c=au&lang=en&prod=mfc260c_eu_as&Cat=112

Don't print the black color

Doing reference on your issue. Double check the ink cartridge to make sure that the cartridge is correctly installed. Also be sure that the black ink cartridge used is compatible with the machine.

The next thing to do is a cartridge cleaning as the belief is that the print head is blocked. If you have done a thurough cleaning, the next thing to do is replace the black ink cartridge to be certain the ink cartridge is not faulty.

I have included print head cleaning instructions in case you have not done this cleaning process.

here is some information from the Brother support site:

If one or more of the ink colors are missing from pages printed by your machine (i.e. received faxes, copies and/or documents printed from the PC etc), nozzles in the print head may be clogged, or the ink cartridge in question may not be installed correctly. Verifying that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and/or cleaning the print head may solve the problem.

Cleaning the print head may solve the problem. When cleaning the print head, you are given the option to clean BLACK ONLY, one of the three colors (CYAN, YELLOW, or MAGENTA), or all four colors at once. For this issue we recommend cleaning only the affected color. If more than one color is missing then choose ALL.

When the machine completes cleaning the print head, press Color Start. A Print Quality Check Sheet will print.

WHILE TEST PRINT CYAN INK NOT SHOWING WHAT SHOULD I DO SIR

This issue will only occur if an ink cartridge(s) is or was installed inthe wrong position (slot) in the machine. When a cartridge is installed, the ink tube system is filled with the ink from the cartridges, to prepare the machine for printing. If the cartridge is inthe wrong position the tube will fill with the wrong color.

NOTE: If you just installed or replaced the ink cartridges and your printed documents are missing colors please refer to the solution - I just installed or replaced my ink cartridge and my printed documents aremissing colors. What can I do? Blank

To resolve this issue you will need to clean the print head.

NOTE: It may require 10 to 15 cleanings to clean the ink tubes and print head. During the cleaning process, the ink in the cartridge(s) will be consumed. Additional ink cartridges may be required to completethe cleaning process.

1. First verify the position of the ink cartridges:

a. Open the ink cartridge cover and check to make sure the ink cartridges are in the correct order.

b. Starting from the left side, the correct order is Black, Yellow, Cyan(blue), and Magenta (red).

- If the ink cartridges are installed in the correct order, close the ink cartridge cover and continue to STEP 2.

- If the ink cartridges are not in the correct order, remove the ink cartridges that are installed in the wrong position by pressing down on the release lever(s), located above the ink cartridge and remove the cartridge(s) from the machine.

Next, reinstall the ink cartridge(s) in the correct position in the machine by gently pushing the cartridge in until it clicks.

When all the cartridges are installed, close the ink cartridge cover.

2. After closing the ink cartridge cover, the LCD will prompt - Did youchange XXXX (XXXX = the color) This message will be displayed for ink cartridge that was removed. Press the - (Minus Key for No). This willkeep accurate data of how much ink is left in the cartridge.

1. Press the INK key.

2. Press OK to select Test Print.

3. Press OK to select Print Quality.

4. Press the COLOR START key.

5. Review the Check Sheet. The colors on the Check Sheet should be in a specific order: Black, yellow, Cyan (Blue) and Magenta (red).

a If the colors on the Check Sheet are in the correct order and are notmissing any dashes, press + (Plus Key for Yes) on the key pad and continue to STEP 7.

b If the colors on the Check Sheet are not in the correct order, are missing dashes or blank or a color other than Black, Yellow, Cyan or Magenta printed press - (Minus Key for No) on the key panel and continueto STEP 6.

6. The machine will need to perform cleanings to flush out the incorrectcolor or dried ink from the ink tubes and print head.

a. The LCD will ask you BLACK OK. If black is fully printed and is the correct color, press + (Plus Key for Yes). If it#s blank, missing dashes or is the incorrect color, press - (Minus Key for No).

b. The LCD will ask you COLOR OK. If any of the 3 colors (yellow, cyan (blue), and magenta (red) are fully printed and are the correct color, press + (Plus Key for Yes). If it#s blank, missing dashes or is the incorrect color, press - (Minus Key for No).

c. The LCD will say START CLEANING + for YES and - for NO. Press + for YES to start cleaning. The machine will go through a cleaning cycle that will take approximately one to two minutes.

d. After the cleaning is completed, the LCD will say PRESS START. Pressthe BLACK START key. This will print out the print quality check sheet again for you to check and see if your print quality issue has been resolved or not

NOTE: If you wait 1 minute after the cleaning cycle is completed, the display will return to date and time. You will need to go back to STEP 3 to print the Print Quality Check Sheet again.

e. If the ink color order is correct and all of the dashes are present, press + on the key pad to select YES and continue to STEP 7.

If the colors on the Check Sheet are not in the correct order, are missing dashes or blank or a color other than Black, Yellow, Cyan or Magenta printed press - key to select NO. Repeat the cleaning process byfollowing STEPS 6a through 6d. You may have to perform this procedure up to 15 times in order to clean the ink tubes and print head

NOTE: During the cleaning process, the ink in the cartridge(s) will be consumed. Additional ink cartridges may be required to complete the cleaning process.

7. Test by printing the document that had the reported problem (wrong color printing).

My black ink ran out so I replaced the ink

Hi:
I have used the printer series that you have for years, and once in awhile, I get a new cartridge that won't immediately print. Often, there is just a bit of dried ink residue on the print head, and that won't allow the cartridge to work correctly.

Some simple things to try are :

1) Remove the black cartridge. and take a damp paper towel and gently swab the print head area. Next, apply some pressure to the sides of the black cartridge, until you see black ink oozing out of the print head. Repeat if needed. Once the ink starts flowing, blot off the excess, and install the cartridge.

If you can't get ink to flow, then the cartridge might be bad. Most of them have an expiration date on the packaging.

Hp c7820 printer 02 black catridge

Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention to areas with copper contacts. Keep in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if the exact type of ink it expected you to have installed is not right. Double check that the ink is correct against the manual or written instructions inside the printer using the number not the shape or color of the cartridge. Not every cartridge that fits the printer necessarily works.

Brother mfc 3360 model mostly problem is no printout, pls soluti

Hi!

If one or more of the ink colors are missing from pages printed by your machine (i.e. received faxes, copies and/or documents printed from the PC etc), nozzles in the print head may be clogged, or the ink cartridge in question may not be installed correctly. Verifying that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and/or cleaning the print head may resolve this problem.

To verify the ink cartridges are installed correctly follow the steps listed below:

Open the ink cartridge cover and reinstall the ink cartridge. Open each lock release lever and push it until it clicks, and then close the ink cartridge cover.

The LCD may then display:
Did you change xxxxxx? Yes No.
The LCD may display this question for the color(s) that was replaced.
Select Yes or No by pressing arrow keys or 1/2 or "+/-" key.

After all the correct selections are made, the machine will then go into a cleaning.

The machine should begin cleaning automatically, and the LCD will alternately show "CLEANING" and "PLEASE WAIT". When the machine completes its cleaning cycle, the LCD will go back to standby mode automatically. Print the Print Quality Check Sheet and see if all colors are present:

Press the Ink or Ink Management key.
Use the up or down navigation key to select Test Print.
Press OK to confirm your choice.
Use the up or down navigation key to select Print Quality.
Press OK to confirm your choice. Press the Color key to print the Test Sheet.

If one or more of the colors is still missing from the printed page, cleaning the print head may resolve this problem. When cleaning the print head, you are given the option to clean BLACK ONLY, one of the three colors (CYAN, YELLOW, or MAGENTA), or all four colors at once. For this issue we recommend cleaning only the affected color. If more than one color is missing then select ALL.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
