Did you try crossing the two large connector studs on the selonoid? If you did you should have power going to the starter and start the engine if the switch is in the on position..if so it is your selonoid or at worst the switch itself..or bad starter...good luck.

Fj60 wont start or be jumped. starter seems totally dead. could it be a fuse or solenoid?

Possible, but not likely. Hold the key in start position and check if you have power to the small wire going to the starter solenoid (on the starter motor). If this wire has voltage when holding key in start, then you know the starter has to come off for testing. Either a bad starter motor or bad solenoid.
If no power on the small wire, then you will have to diagnose the starting circuit. Something wrong between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid.

I have a 1982 ford mallard motor home I put a new starter and cylinoid and when I turn it over it will start but the starter won't stop going until you unhook the battery. Any idea's why it's doing that?...

I would say inside the starter, somehow I think, the arm that pushes the gear out to the flywheel is binding up...and not letting the gear retract back like it should...so the switch inside the solinoid thinks it should still be spinning the gear, so it dont stop applying power to the starter motor..

1991 Honda Night Hawk 750.., battery fine but the fuse box clicks when I push the start button, nothing else happens.

There are no moving parts in your fuse box. The clicking sound is the contact bar closing in your starter solenoid.Follow your positive battery cable to your starter solenoid. If your push your starter button and you hear a click in the starter solenoid , then your starter button is good. If you take a piece of wire, a screw driver, or simply touch the the two power cables on the the starter solenoid together you will be putting power directly to your starter. If you jump the solenoid and the starter works you need to replace the starter solenoid. If with direct power to the starter, you tap the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you will need to replace the starter assembly the manufacturers do not sell replacement parts for there starters (only the brushes).

Headlights go dim when try to start, but nothing happen the switch lights come on but dont start. 1800 vtx motorcycle 2003

The headlight is supposed to turn off when you push the starter button. If you push the starter button and the solenoid clicks, the button is good. If there is no power going to the solenoid you can try disassembling and cleaning the button. Take a wire and jump the two posts on the solenoid or touch the two cables together. If your starter works, then you need a new solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you need to replace the starter assembly , unless the manufacturer sells replacement parts so you can repair the starter. most manufacturers only sell replacement starter brushes.

1997 honda shadow ace 1100. won't fire when start button is pushed. checked power to wores all power there. Is it the starter?

If you push the button and the solenoid clicks , the button is good. If you short across the cable terminals on the starter solenoid and the starter works, the solenoid is bad. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works, you need starter brushes. If anything else is wrong with the starter (bad armature) , you need a new starter.

Starter activates when battery wire connected and starter is grounded to frame with or without solenoid wire connected. No short between posts on new starter. Only does it when the power source is from the...

sounds like you are hooking up the starter wrong. the positive goes to the starter main terminal from the battery. the ignition wire goes to the s on the solenoid, which activates 12 volts when the ignition switch is turned on which causes a magnetic field
inside the solenoid and joins the connectors
in the solenoid to the main positive wire from the
battery to the main starter unit brushes/armature inside the starter unit. If you have a constant
12 volts from the ignition wire it will keep the solenoid engaged. If you put the main positive wire on the wrong solenoid terminal it will immediately engage the starter. try putting the main battery wire to the correct terminal or perhaps check the ignition wire for a short or constant voltage to the solenoid.
