Press START/PAUSE and any one of the option buttons
simultaneously for at least two seconds: the LEDs first switch off,
and then display the flashing sequence corresponding to the
alarm condition.
Examples:
Alarm E43 (problems with the door safety interlock triac) will be displayed as follows:
• four flashes of the END OF CYCLE LED indicate the first digit E43;
• three flashes of the START/PAUSE LED indicate the second digit E43;
So, error code E55 as you specified does not exist. Any how, family error code 5 (first digit) means problem with motor. Error code could be E51,E52,E53 and E54.
Possible causes:
- faulty motor
- motor brushes (very often)
- faulty tachometer (integrated in the motor but is replaceable)
- faulty electronic (Motor power triac short-circuited or motor relay contacts sticking).

If the 45 second reset will not work by holding in the power button the console for that amount of time then releasing, you may need to return the high priced piece of ****. I have gone through three of them so far and they all keep asking me to "please switch the control to the player 1 setting" and thats it. I think they mass produce these so fast that there cannot by any law of physics be any time left for QA to check them out before they leave the factory. The net is littered with problems on this.
to clear the 991 Takagi code, simultaneously press the bottom 2 grey buttons of the four just to the left of the flashing LED light. When the LED stops flashing, release and then press the reset button on the black panel about 8 inches above that
