SOURCE: Sound Quality

I also have a Samsung 46 inch HDTV and have the same problem. I reported it to Samsung. They sent out a repair man who replaced the entire audio system... I did not help at all. Sound quality still very bad. Hard to understand audio voice on most movies. Is there a solution short of installing an additional home theatre system?

On the Vizio D TV's......the quality of the sound is horrible. It sounds equivalent to a 1970's 12 TV!! Did we miss something when setting it up?

Hello, Kim -

I found the following evaluation of the sound quality for the Vizio D television from the Rtings.com web site:
[Quote]
The sound quality is sub-par, and the TV doesn't get very loud. You will definitely benefit from having a separate sound system. Even a cheap sound bar would be an improvement.
[End quote]

So, you probably didn't make any errors in setting the TV up and may need to purchase a sound bar or speakers. We have an older model Vizio TV and found the sound quality is improved with added speakers. Our speakers can work as a sound bar or 2 speaker units on each side of the TV.

No Sound - Very quiet static/ticking noise

http://ca.asus.com/en/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/SABERTOOTH_X58/

Specifications;

Audio: Absolute Pitch 192kHZ/ 24-bit True BD Lossless Sound
- Asus noise filter
- Optical S/PDIF out port/s at back panel

http://www.asus.com/News/8krSWx1MniBbcCUI/

Ummm,....No.

10 Channel sound (?)
BD stands for Blu-ray Discs
192kHZ/24-bits True BD

The above is a 192kHZ sampling rate with a 24-bit sound output.
REALLY good quality.

However,

Realtek ALC892 is the audio chipset.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=28&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=284

"The ALC892 provides ten DAC channels that simultaneously support 7.1 channel sound playback, plus 2 channels of independent stereo sound output (multiple streaming) through the front panel stereo outputs."

Oh, 10 DAC channels.

Speakers sound bad when music is playing

Most flat panel televisions have very poor sound quality especially when it comes to music. If you want improved sound then I would suggest investing in a Home Theater System such as HTIB (home theater in a box) or a sound bar for improved audio. If you believe the bad sound is a result of a defective speaker and the TV is under warranty I would call the manufacture and inquire about it being repaired. Or you can go with my original suggestion.

Static coming from my DELL AS500 speakers

It's the jack on the back of the PC or sound card. Sounds like some solder is loose on the jack.

The cheapest solution would likely be to just replace the sound card, if your comfortable installing them. It's really quick and pretty hard to mess up.

If it's "onboard" sound, meaning the audio jacks are built right into the mother board, you'd likely need to just replace it with a pci based sound card.

Scratching (static) noise coming from computer speakers

I foudn this in anther forum:
I have an ASUS motherboard P5E3 Premium. The audio that came with it was the Sound Max audio. I also noticed abnormal sounds coming from the speakers. They included sounds during hard drive activity and also with mouse movement. They were not loud but noticable. I searched all over the web but didn't find the answer. I stumbled across the fix myself. I also have vista-64. In the sound control panel > speaker properties > levels... there is a pc beep slide bar. I noticed that if it is disabled then the abnormal sound went away completely. Problem solved. Hope this helps.

HP1020 fax answer phone etc

Digital answer phones record the message on a memory chipset in the same way old tape machines did using a magnetic support. Quality can only be improved by the technology itself, problem is with your specific machine.
If you have a broadband filter try replacing it.
Test the machine on a different phone socket and see if it makes any difference.
Check on your answering machine settings, you should find an option to control volume.
