Beater bar Belt Removal from Upright Electrolux...
Posted by wrenn on Jul 14, 2008
I am trying to change the belt on an Electrolux Model 1717 Upright Vacuum and I am having difficulty disassembling the vacuum to remove the beater bar and belt.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. . Normally there are screws, clips or levers that would remove the bottom plate or if that does not work then the top cover will come off and that will expose the belt. Once that is off and the belt is exposed then cut off the old belt and then lift up the brushroll on the pulley end and install the new belt around the pulley end and re-install the brushroll. Then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bent right or left end to stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line and reverse you steps in the reinstall of the top cover or bottom plate. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

SOURCE: beater bar motor will not engage

Check your clutch to make sure it's engaged. There should be a knob on the foot of the vacuum that can be turned to stop the roller.

SOURCE: Electrolux 1572E (Discovery II) How to remove

Remove the handle assembly by taking the big screw out and pull up on the handle. Remove the four screws where the top half connects to the bottom half. Two on the outside back and two on the inside front where the bag goes. You'll need a long phillips #2 screwdriver. Always have the power disconected. Pull up on the bag housing while twisting it side to side.
Good luck after you get in.

SOURCE: bissell 6579-2 bagless vacuum. Beater bar siezed

1. Uing the appropriate sized drift punch, tap out the steel axle rod which passes through the beater drum.
2. Each end cap houses a 608ZZ ball brg.
3. Check each brg for freedom of smooth rotation. Replace both if either is seized.
4. Replace with either 608ZZ (dbl shielded) or 608 2RS (dbl sealed) brgs.
5. Inspect and be prepared to replace the drive belt since it may have been damaged in the seizure event.

SOURCE: The motor running the beater bar on ny Electrolux

Check all the wiring connections to make sure they're tight.
1/2. Wiring to power nozzle motor or reset switch is loose.
1. Cord from power nozzle to upper wand. If the plastic portion of the wand is cracked near the cord connection, or the connections are blackened, they need replaced.
2. Wiring connection from hose handle to upper wand. Check for cracks and discoloration as in 1 above. Replace if necessary.
3. Hose connection to vacuum. Not likely, but possible.
4. There could very well be a break in the hose wiring.
You may need to take your vacuum, with hose and power nozzle, to an authorized Aerus Electrux service shop. They can try a new hoze to see if that's the problem. If there is a break in the wiring, the hose is probably worn in other areas as well, and should be replaced.

How do you remove the bottom of the electrolux model 1572E to replace belt?

the discovery electrolux are different. :)
The top comes off, not the bottom like other vacuums.
After taking the screws out, turn the vacuum on its side (vacuum handle to your left, front of vacuum to your right when looking at bottom).
There are two rectangular holes, one on top above the wheel and one on bottom below the other wheel. Place a flat head screw driver in one of the holes and pry gently, pushing handle of screwdriver toward your right. At same time pull up on top plastic of vacuum. Do the same thing for the other side. Top should come off.
Best to you.

Why won't the beater bar turn?

Hi, this is Jim with Crucial Vacuum,

It sounds like the beater bar may have become dislodged after sucking up the fine cord. First thing to do is turn off the vacuum and turn it on its side to examine the beater bar. Check both sides of the bar to make sure it is in place. Usually these bars lock into place fairly easily.

The next thing to take note of if there is any debris lodged in the bottom of your vacuum or around the bar itself. Remove the debris by manually rotating the vacuum and using a razor to cut away anything around the bar.

Since your belt is fine this should solve the problem.

Beater not turning but belt good. beater motor not turning but turns manually

Hi Dan:

check both ends of the beater bar. Pet/Human hair, thread, strings and even dirt can really get wound up in between the plastic ends and the bar. It might look ok but it won't turn effortlessly. If you find that is the case, you might be able to fish the junk out but from experience it's just better to buy a new beater bar or roller part.

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
1. Turn off the power (unplug).
2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

Best regards, --W/D--

My beater bar makes a noise and has a crack in the motor on the beater bar and is discolored--me thinks I need a new motor for the beater bar

Sounds like you're right. New motors are available at your nearest Aerus Electrolux store. They used to charge the same amount for selling the motor and letting the buyer install it, or for installing it in the shop. Worth checking in to.

Beater bar stopped on discovery 2

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are 2 possibilities that could be happening. Either the belt is broken of which you can replace the belt @ least one a year for proper maintenance or there may be a reset for the vacuum in case you get something caught in the brushroll section of the vacuum. Check both of those items and it should work unless you have a motor burn out – if you did there would be a burning smell. Feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area.
