Well, I haven't worked on a Compaq for a few years but they're one of the models that respond to having the CMOS battery removed.

Basically, remove battery, find location of CMOS battery (usually under memory cover or HDD cover) and disconnect or pull it out for 30 minutes and you should be back to factory defaults.

  • Hello cente_nkn, if by chance you didn't 'create a "Supervisor Password" to prevent anyone from changing the configurations in the BIOS / CMOS Setup? than we are 'OK!' Lets just say [No] for now.
  • Bootup / Start the computer, and follow these steps:
  • 1. When you hear the computer start-up, there will be a message that flashes very quickly at the bottom of the screen, it will read; Press F2 or F12 or on other "Computers, the 'Key Sequence may be [F11]..."
  • The area of your attention will be [F2] Key at the top of the keyboard. The F2 Key will open the CMOS / BIOS Setup. paul7of9_15.jpg
  • 2. Once this screen appear, you will see a 'Listing" of different set-ups. There will be instructions in the [right] Help ? area. You be using the "Arrow Keys" to (Select and Choose Items). In the first screen, there will be on the (right of the screen).

Dont have password for phoenix BIOS setup page or the user name and password at startup

I know some methods to reset bios password.
1. The best and easiest method: Close OS and shut down the electricity power of computer. Open your computer box, take out the cmos battery from the mainboard. Then the bios password will be reset to blank. Put it back after a few minutes.
2. Follow some hard tutorials, it is difficult to do. It is better that you are a expert. For example this tutorial: Bypass BIOS Password or Crack CMOS Password?
3. Use the bios password recovery tool , but that is not free!

So I would suggest you the 1st method. Hope it helps.

How do i rmove a bio password out of my toshiba satellite m305-s 4910 laptop

Setting the BIOS Password

There are two main varieties of BIOS used in Toshiba notebooks, each with its own unique method for setting and disabling a password. First, determine which type of BIOS is used in your notebook model, as follows:

Starting with the computer fully off, turn it on by pressing and releasing the power button.

Immediately and repeatedly tap the Esc key. If the message "Check System and press the F1 key" appears, then follow the "Esc key BIOS" procedure, below.

If the computer ignores the Esc key when it's powered-on, or if you see an invitation to press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup utility, follow the "F2 key BIOS" procedure, below.

Almost all Toshiba notebook computers will respond to either the Esc key or the F2 key when they're first powered-on. The Toshiba HWSetup program (found in the Windows Control Panel) may also be used for setting and disabling the BIOS password. See the HWSetup procedure, below.

To set a BIOS password, start the BIOS Setup program and enter a new password into the password field, per the detailed instructions below. Once a BIOS password is set, it will be necessary to enter it whenever the computer is started, restarted or reset. Choose a password that you can reliably recall, or make note of it in a secure location. If you forget the BIOS password, only a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider can remove it.

ESC key BIOS Password setting procedure

1. Starting with the computer fully off, turn it on by pressing and releasing the power button. Immediately and repeatedly tap the Esc key, until the message "Check system. Then press (F1) key" appears on the screen.

2. Press the F1 key. The BIOS setup program will appear.

3. Using the arrow keys or the tab key, move to the Password field, and highlight NOT REGISTERED.

4. Press the spacebar, and then enter a new password at the "Password = " prompt. Press the Enter key.

5. Enter the password again when the Setup program prompts for it, and press Enter. The Password field will change to REGISTERED.

6. Press the End key and then the Y key to save changes and exit the BIOS Setup program.

F2 key BIOS Password setting procedure

1. Starting with the computer fully off, turn it on by pressing and releasing the power button. Immediately and repeatedly tap the F2 key.

2. The BIOS setup program should appear. If Windows starts, shut down the computer and try step 1 again.

3. Use the arrow keys to move to the Security tab.

4. Use the arrow keys to select "Set User Password". (This 'User Password' is equivalent to what is otherwise called, in this document, a 'BIOS Password'.)
(It may be necessary to set a supervisor password before setting a user password. A Supervisor Password may be thought of as a backup mechanism -- if a User Password is forgotten, the Supervisor Password will allow access to the computer. The next section describes how to set a Supervisor Password.)

5. Press the F5 or the F6 key to navigate to the Password section. Type in a new password at the "Password = " prompt, and then press the Enter key.

6. Enter the password again when the Setup program prompts for it, and press Enter. The password field will now change to indicate that a password has been entered.

7. Optionally, set the Password on Boot feature to 'Enable'. Otherwise the computer may not prompt for the password at startup.

8. Press the F10 key to save changes and exit the BIOS Setup program.

HWSetup BIOS Password setting procedure (This method works for most notebook models.)

1. In Windows, click Start, then Control Panel (or Start, then Settings, then Control Panel).

2. In Control Panel, click on the icon for HWSetup or Toshiba Hardware Setup.

(If neither of these icons are present, download and install the Toshiba utilities for your model from the Service and Support Website, or use the appropriate BIOS Setup procedure above.)

3. Click on the Password tab.

4. Click to select Registered. Alternately, there may be a choice for User or Supervisor Password. Select one or the other

5. Enter a new password at the "Password = " prompt, and press the Enter key.

6. Enter the password again when the HWSetup program prompts for it, and press Enter. The Password field will now say REGISTERED or SET.

7. Optionally, set the Password on Boot feature to 'Enable'. Otherwise the computer may not prompt for the password at startup.

8. Close the HWSetup program.

Removing the BIOS Password

Follow one of the procedures below to remove a BIOS Password. See the section 'Setting the BIOS Password', above, to determine which type of BIOS your computer has. Once the password is removed, the computer will no longer prompt for a password when it's started. Removing the BIOS Password requires you to enter it first. If you cannot recall the BIOS Password, only a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider can remove it.

ESC Key BIOS Password removing procedure

1. Starting with the computer fully off, turn it on by pressing and releasing the power button. Immediately and repeatedly tap the Esc key. The computer will display the "Password = " prompt.

2. Enter the correct password, and press the Enter key. The computer will display "Valid password entered, system is now starting up. Check system. Then press (F1) key"

3. Press the F1 key. The BIOS setup program will appear.

4. Using the arrow keys or the tab key, move to the password field, and highlight REGISTERED.

5. Press the spacebar, enter the correct password, and press the Enter key. The Password field will change to NOT REGISTERED.

F2 Key BIOS Password removing procedure

1. Starting with the computer fully off, turn it on by pressing and releasing the power button. Immediately and repeatedly tap the F2 key. The unit will display the "Password = " prompt.

2. Enter the correct password, press the Enter key. (You may need to press the F2 key after you hit the enter key.)

3. The BIOS setup program will appear.

4. Using the arrow keys, move to the Security tab, and to Set User Password.

5. Press the F5 or the F6 key to navigate to the Password section. Enter the current password at the Old Password prompt, and press Enter. At the New Password prompt, press Enter (without typing anything into the password field). At the Confirm Password prompt, press Enter again (without typing anything into the password field). The password should now be removed.

6. Press F10 to save and exit from the BIOS Setup program.

HWsetup BIOS Password removing procedure (This method works for most notebook models.)

Select one or the other.

5. Enter the current password at the "Password = " prompt, press the Enter key. If the HWSetup app prompts for the current password and then twice for the new password, simply press the enter key three times after entering the current password. By pressing the Enter key only, you are selecting no password.

6. HWSetup should now show that the password is Unregistered, which means there is no password set.

7. Close the HWSetup program.

It seems that the Dell is not publishing the BIOS reset info online. You can try following the below steps once. ( Article ID: 184659)

During the initial boot of a computer the BIOS supplier will be displayed. If OEM logo splash screen is displayed, press ESC key to see the boot up information. Press the Pause/Break key if text displays too fast.

In the BIOS window, select Security tab and delete the BIOS password.

OK, here is my guide to Remove Acer Bios password computer via Software. This has been done on testing machine Laptop Acer Aspire 3620/ Travel Mate 2420. Anyway, I'm not sure it will work on every Acer PC/Laptop so just consider to do at your own risk, I’m not responsible for any damages caused by this guide.

As we know most of Acer computer (Laptop & Desktop) allow us to setup BIOS in Microsoft Windows (9x/XP/Vista) environment. Great, this is the powerful that help us to remove the BIOS password cuz all we know if we enter Setup Utility at the boot time we have only three times of filling the password and if all wrong then the system will halt.
The program helps us to enter Acer BIOS setup in Microsoft Windows is “Acer eSettings Management” which comes with the CD when we buy Acer PC/Laptop. If you lost the CD then just come to Acer website to download the program.

Guide to remove BIOS password of Acer computer (Both Laptop & Desktop).

There are four ways to remove the BIOS password

1. Reset Password BIOS via Backdoor BIOS Password.
2. Reset Password BIOS via Software.
3. Reset Password BIOS via hardware.
4. Reset Password BIOS via default manufacturers.

You can contact acer support or search internet for Acer's default BIOS password and that would be real easy for you, But if you are comfortable enough to use Dos you can also try this method.

The program helps us to enter Acer BIOS setup in Microsoft Windows is “Acer eSettings Management” which comes with the CD when we buy Acer PC/Laptop. If you lost the CD then just come to Acer website to download the program.

Before you can install “Acer eSettings Management” you have to install program called: “Acer Empowering Technology” so you’d better to download both of them from Acer website and install & restart your computer to be ready for the job. Here is the link of Acer website, just come there and sellect right series/model of your computer to download these programs:

Code: ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com or

Code: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com
Another one program is also very important we will need called: “CmosPwd” - CmosPwd is a cmos/bios password recovery tool. CmosPwd is under GNU Public License. You can freely distribute it. It can be compiled under Dos, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and NetBSD.

Download it here:

Code: http://www.cgsecurity.org/cmospwd-5.0.zip Guide to install CmosPwd and remove password:

1. Download & extract to a folder. I put it in drive D like this: d:\ cmos
2. To work on cmos memory, ioperm need to be installed and running. ioperm gives direct port I/O access for specified ports to user-mode process (ring 3) using Ke386SetIoAccessMap and Ke386IoSetAccessProcess kernel functions.

Log on to Windows as Administrator priviledges and do as follow: (see picture):

a. Click Start-->Run: type CMD hit Enter on your keyboard.
b. now us the CD command of Dos to come to d:\cmos\windows. (here is: d: hit enter; cd cmos hit enter; cd windows hit enter).
c. when you are already in d:\cmos\windows in drive D then: type “ioperm.exe –i” hit enter.
d. to start ioperm service: type “net start ioperm” hit enter.
e. ok, type: “Cmospwd_win.exe /k” hit enter, we will see:

1 - Kill cmos
2 - Kill cmos (try to keep date and time)
0 - Abort
Choice :

Type 1 and hit Enter to clear cmos.

90238142zh6.jpg

f. run the Acer eSettings Management program: start-->program-->Acer Empower Technology-->Acer eSettings Management.

37400896td6.jpg

g. now come to the: Bios Password to see: if you still see password enable, that means we fail but if we see they are Disable so we are done. Remember if we success remove password then we have to create a password for it and then remove it and click Apply to save to cmos memory. This is very important because sometimes we see it Disable but when reboot the computer they are Enable again cuz the password is still in the CMOS.

That’s all, good luck & don’t forget to set an easy password later.
