You have short circuit in downstream of the fridge circuit breaker. And then you connect GFI, it is more sensitive to short circuit. Coz it use to sense small leakage current. I don't put this in solution since you may want more specific solution. Just a help or clue from me. Regards.

Unless there is a dedicated circuit of 20 amps to the refrigerator this will continue to happen When your refrigerator goes into defrost and other things like lights fans air conditioners are on the same circuit it will have no choice to not trip the breaker. Try this turn the breaker off and how may thing in your house stop working? You need a 20 AMP circuit or this will possibly damage the compressor or weaken the breaker because it has tripped so many time. Thanks, Please rate my solution, I have done this work for 30 years. My fridge samsung RSH1JBBP keeps tripping the power supply in my home

There could be a problem with the fridge motor using too much current or the circuit breaker is weak. Try using another outlet or change the circuit breaker.

Refrigerator disables all outlets on its circuit but the 1st outlet

I just answered your question on the previous situation but here it is again. A GFCI receptacle placed in a circuit controls power to all remaining devices on that circuit. If the GFCI trips, anything after it shuts down. That is your situation. If your fridge keeps tripping the GFCI, it has a grounding problem. You should have your fridge checked out so that your family does not receive an electrical shock when contacting the fridge. Be safe.

What would cause intermitant pop of ground fault. only thing on the line. ground fault has been replaced

Refrigerators are not recommended to be plugged into a GFI outlet. Depending on the age of the fridge there will be spikes in the current the fridge uses at certain times causing the GFI to trip. A GFI outlet is much more sensitive to current than a non GFI outlet that is tied back to the the regular breaker in the electrical panel. Pleazer Appliance...

Everytime I plug in the power cord, it trips the breaker.

Refrigerators are not designed to run on a GFCI. Try a heavy duty extension cord to the fridge from a outlet that is not GFCI protected. If it still trips you probably have a short circuit in the compressor.

Fridge keeps tripping the circuit breaker

get an inexpensive clamp amp meter (Harbor Freight has them). Turn off power to the plug. Remove plug from wall but do not disconnet wires. turn fridge OFF. plug the unit in the recept. turn on the power. set the meter for the higest reading (amps) & clamp it around the black wire. turn the fridge ON & observe start up current & the "run" current. If the fridge is within limits on the data plate the problem is in the wiring circuit, maybe a loose connection either @ the plug or the breaker. if there are several plugs in the circuit, the problem could be in one of them. In addition, if there is a gfi plug in this circuit, it could be faulty also.

Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator keeps tripping GFI outlet.

We had same problem with different fridge. Is the fridge cooling things? When ours did that we needed to replace the relay overload start capacitor it's called a three in one. It acts like a giant battery to give your compressor a n extra boost to get started runs about 25 bucks relatively easy fix only has three wires to connect

Fridge keeps tripping electricity

I assume by "earth leakage" you mean it is on a GFI circuit? Some older GFI outlets are sensitive to and do not work well with motors or other inductive loads like your refridgerator compressor. As for the compressor feeling hot, this is usually normal.

If this is a GFI outlet, try replacing it with new unit. If it is a GFI breaker, try replacing that.

Fridge is popping my GFI switch

refrigerators are not supposed to be plugged into gfi outlets as they can operate normally and still trip the gfi protector. try plugging the unit into an unprotected outlet and it should work fine. incidentally you'll probably have to replace the gfi outlet as it has probably weakend from being used on the refrig.

Refrigerator trips GFI outlet

unlikely to be the defrost timer. more likely to be the defrost element. try disconnecting the element and see if it trips then. could be of course a wiring fault - frayed wires etc
