I was cutting some wood and when I went to make the next cut the motor would not start. I checked my circuit breaker but it was fine. I plugged a light into the outlet and it would turn on. When I pull the trigger on the saw nothing at all happens - no sound at all. It is as if the motor is not getting any electricity. I tried looking in the manual for troubleshooting but could not find anything. I could not find anything in the parts for a start capacitor so I am not sure what my next step should be.
The switch, once you undo the 6 screws and remove the cover, has 3 wires going into it. Take off those wires "carefully" and remote the trigger/switch. Don't lose the big or small springs, like I did today lol. It's set up almost the exact same way as earlier model power window switches. Once u removed the clipped in plastic piece to the switch you'll see everything inside. It has a rocker brass switch. Trying to run it will push the rocker forward to meet another in place brass contact. ALOT of issues are because the contacts are getting carbon on them blocking the flow of electricity. Use a rag, small scraper, or my favorite a razorblade and scratch it till it's ALL shiny. Then test it out just plz plz be careful of those springs as if not reassembled exactly the same as before it will NOT WORK. Hope this helps y'all

Usually yes is very common.
What is the best way to troubleshoot that?
You need to take out the trigger and "jump" the two main cables and see if the machine runs.Take a look into this diagram and find out how to take out =http://www.ereplacementparts.com/hitachi...
It may be the brushes. remove them via the two black plastic caps on the motor body and see if they're too worn, or covered in dust. Replace if necessary.
...or one of the above mentioned spring loaded brushes is simply stuck & not making contact. Poke/push to free it. Cleaned it up and swapped sides. Started working again. Thanks Dave.
