Don't know what that device is, but driver will not install if they are not compatible with the operating system. Is the device an older device, maybe sold before Win7 was introduced?

Hi. I would like to install again windows XP Professional, but I have this PC 7 years AND i DIDN'T GET XP PROFESSIONAL WITH MY PC, WHICH CAME FROM PC WORLD. Could you help me if I can use Microsoft...

Yes Ana, you can install Windows XP professional. SP2 will be fine too. However, it may run into issues finding the specific device-drivers your PC uses. Do you have any CDs with your device drivers, i.e. audio/video cards, printer, network cards, etc.?
You would need those before you start installing the new system.

I have a sony vaio vgn-sz491n. i have loaded windows 7 professional, 64bit onto it. in the device manager, it shows that a driver for a mass storage controller is missing. where can i find this...

Most likely missing a driver for SD/MC card reader
The problem is that Sony doesnt offer drivers for 64-bit windows so the other 32-bit drivers will not be compatible.
You have the options to install the windows versions supported by sony from esupport.sony.com (Vista or XP)
Or try installing windows 7 32-bit and installing the missing drivers from esupport (Vista section) as usually they are compatible.
If the driver is still missing you will need to update the driver from device manager (previously installed from esupport) and then select to browse or select a location, which will be %temp% or what is the same the temp folder for your account C\users\your_user_name\appdata\temp. This folder is usually hidden but it will work if you just type %temp%

> frequent freezes

That's a different problem.

> driver for Windows 7

Access the manufacturer's web-site:

http://us.acer.com/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3750&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=25&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3750&CountryISOCtxParam=US&ctx1g.c2att92=453&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2054404012

Select "Windows 7 Professional", to see:

"This page shows only drivers that are not contained in Windows 7"

and the only device-driver that is listed is an "audio" device-driver.

So, the "missing" driver is already on the Windows 7 Installation DVD disk.

Or, try http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com and do a "custom" search, looking for "optional [hardware] updates", to see if Windows Update will offer a device-driver for your hardware.

Hi,

To my knowledge you cannot upgrade from Windows XP directly to Windows 7. You will have to upgrade to Vista and then to 7. Also there are limitations as to which Windows 7 version (Home, Professional, Ultimate) you can upgrade to from certain Vista versions.

If you dont have any information / data on the PC that you mind loosing, i suggest a clean install of Windows 7 by booting up from the Windows 7 dvd and formating the HDD before the installation procedure.

Windows 7 has a host of built in drivers that will probably cover all of the devices that are present on your system. If not then you can always download the drivers from the manufacturers site for the items that fail to install automatically under 7.

Let me know how it goes.

Lenovo y410 cannot locate driver in windows 7.

according to IBM, your system doesn't support MIcrosoft windows 7,so there site doesn't have any drivers for Windows 7.

But drivers which are meant for windows vista usually work (90% of the Drivers) fine with Windows 7.

You can try those driver and note down those drivers which has compatibilty problem. You can directly checkthose drivers from their manufacturer sites according to their chipset if they have released driver for windows 7 Compatible.
