To test it, take the filter out and see if you still get the clicking noise. See if the ball is wobbly, a sign of the bearings worn. This would cause the ball casing to touch the filter and cause clicking.

The filter is catching the inside of the ball. It could be a cheap after-market filter as highlighted in the Dyson Medic article above, it could also be a worn motor housing or a warped motor housing due to overheating.

Please read this answer all the way through there is something that may be relevant (strike out 'important') at the end !

Maybe it's this
"clip that holds the filter in place and the locating lug of the access flap to gently rub together as the ball rotates and create a slight clicking noise as the appliance is moved around (though is not routinely noticed due to the motor noise)"
(from Fully Cleaned Serviced Refurbished Dyson DC25 Animal Ball Vacuum Cleaner )
stop press - I just saw this - if you do not have proper Dyson brand HEPA filters - see end of answer - you may get a loud clicking sound....
The manual tells you about removal and cleaning HEPA filter - the All floors version has one as well)
Otherwise I can only refer to Dyson support, there are various ways of contacting them given at the top right of this webpage Support forDC25 Multi Floor
(the user guide manual is downloadable from this webpage)
Sounds to me as if maybe there is an irregularity on the ball that is contacting the body/ball housing every time the ball does round....unfortunately this makes the ball diameter ~8cm which too small.

When I pull it toward me it makes a clicking noise from the ball ( opposite the filter side) and I don't know how to get that side off to inspect it.

Hi there, it's Allan at Dyson.

This part is not designed to be dismantled by customers and is instead a job for an engineer.

The clicking noise is not necessarily internal as it is possible that there is something that is caught that can be removed without disassembly.

This is something that will require a conversation to help diagnose and then have an engineer booked if required.

If you continue to have difficulty, please give the Dyson Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), 0800 298 0298 (UK). Our experts will be happy to talk you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

Best wishes

Clicking noise

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

A clicking noise from the ball suggests the washable HEPA post-filter may be out of place. This is simple to resolve - the video below shows how to remove the ball shell and re-fit the filter. As you push it back into position, you should hear it lock securely with an audible 'click':

I'm confident this will resolve the issue for you. However, if you would like some further advice from our experts, you can reach them by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Ball filter is popping up, stopping ball rotating and ball area is getting hot

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25 Animal. If the filter inside the Ball will not stay in place during use, please make sure that when you refit it, it locks into place with an audible 'click'.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25. The squealing noise you describe may mean the filter in the Ball is not correctly fitted - please take a look at the video below to see how to remove and replace the filter. Make sure that it's correctly positioned, and push it into place until you hear an audible 'click'. This should resolve your issue, but if you've tried this and are still concerned, I'd encourage you to get in touch with us directly. The brush on my dyson ball DC24 will not turn on- it makes a bad noise if I try--

That noise you're hearing is the clutch, which is expensive to replace and difficult to change.

If you want, you can still use the vacuum for bare floors but that noise will always be there. Using it for anything else won't work.

I cleaned out my dyson ball as it smelt when i hoovered, cleaned filters, washed out canister and took the screws out of the front bar so i could clean near the brushes.. now its making a high pitched...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The screws on the base of the cleaner head should not have to be removed to access the brush bar so it is possible that the brush bar has come out of alignment, hence the noise the machnie is making.

Please ensure that the soleplate has been correctly positioned and that the brush bar is aligned correctly before attempting to use the machine.

If this does not resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards
Darran
