Linnette Williams,
If your computer has a discrete video card you can click the link below to download the online service manual. The manual will provide information for removing/replacing parts within your computer. If your computer has onboard video the video card chip will be soldered to the motherboard.

Where is GPU on Inspiron 5437 laptop?

Linnette Williams,
The GPU is either soldered to the motherboard or if your system has a discrete GPU it will be in a slot inside the computer. You can click the link below to download and view the service manual for your computer.

It seems the GPU is dying. It is cheaper to buy a laptop replacement than to fix this problem.

It will cost you around 60 for half decent RAM. As for the GPU, it's a hassle. You would be better off just building a Desktop. You need an express adapter and PSU as well as the GPU!

the problem is with the gpu inside , i suspect that overheating or continual use of the laptop for long periods has meant that the solder oints holding the gpu to the circuitboard have started to short. Chances of repairing the motherboard are slim and a replacement will be needed.

Ac cord stop working-could not charge battery-so it died, bought a new cord, charged battery, now the screen display not turning on. On a Dell inspiron 1525

Hi,
Usually i would tell you to take out the system memory and reseat it but i recognize the problem.
Whether or not you are still covered by warranty on this laptop you should get in touch with Dell about your issue.
Certain Inspiron models are having problems with their graphics chips (GPU's) which is recognized as a problem by Dell themselves, giving them a call may result in costing less for the OEM repair unless you want to try and fix the problem yourself.
The actual problem is the GPU "graphics processing unit" getting hot, this causes micro fissures between the solder points, the common terminology is a dry or dropped join but its on a microscopic scale not visible to the human eye. This results in not the processor failing but rather comunication between the GPU and the CPU (central processing unit). It is possible to bring these back to life but only a professional who knows their doing will be able to do so, Dell on the other hand will replace the GPU entirley.

Regards.

Video Doesn't Display

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, Dell has had issues the with Nvidia GPU overheating and going bad. Have had to replace mine twice already on a 2 year old Inspiron. If its still under warranty send it to dell. They will replace the GPU.
