Ive had this mic for years now and haven't used it once. i just now got phantom power for it. I have 2 XLR cords and mini usb mic adapter going to my laptop. I try to record on mixcraft and audacity and on both it doesn't let me record with it?

i found out what it was. its cause i also have a midi keyboard hooked up through another usb and i guess it was taking up the sounds even if it wasnt turned on. so what im doing now is, running the keyboard with a midi to midi directly to the mpc and the mpc to the mbox. but thanks man. appreciate the help

try cleaning your plugs before inserting them into the machine. a dry clothe will do nicely. polishing the plug heads in a twisting motion.
SOURCE: Rode NT2 got Phantom!
Well... Rode NT2's are condenser mic's that require phantom power to work. So the phantom switch should be on. When you turn phantom power on you usually hear a bump sound (through the amplifier). In this case, nothing is broken.
Your picture is of a Rode Videomic (not an NT2) which is a stereo mic for video cameras. If you had some kind of stereo mini to (single) XLR adaptor, and put phantom power through it, the mic would probably be damaged. But maybe not... just try again without phantom power to see. a stereo mic won't work very well with the Mbox Mini because it only has one mic preamp.

This mic needs phantom power to operate. Best bet, go and buy a USB mic pre, such as a M-Audio product.
This mic, I believe also runs on a battery, when phantom power is not available...so check the battery.
Or, simply, your record levels are set too low.
SOURCE: Rode NT1A: i got an adapter
The reason it is not being picked up by your PC is because the NT1A is a condenser microphone and it requires an audio interface that can supply phantom power (48V) to get it powered up. Without phantom power, the NT1A won't work. You many need to buy an external audio interface that provides phantom power to use the mic. Hope that helps.
