Please clarify what you mean by ''Connect with an ethernet cable''

The following reply/solution was given by omega_f to my problem a while ago. ''Connect with an ethernet cable then type http://192.168.1.1 into a web browser and see what happens. If you get a log in screen leave the username blank and use the password 'admin' (without the quotes). this will tell you if the router is accessable to the computer. '' Please clarify: What do I connect with an ethernet cable? Is it the router to the ethernet cable, then to connect the router by another cable (the blue one) to the PC? Or is it PC to ethernet cable which is what I am connected to now - when I typed http://192.168.1.1 into the URL address, this has not resulted to anything except the message ''This Page Cannot Be Displayed.'' Thank you.

I assume your modem is capable of a 100 Mbps connection with your ISP and you are suing Cat5e plenum Ethernet cable.
Try this:
- Unplug power to modem.
- Unplug router from modem if using one.
- Connect a single PC or laptop with at least a 100 Mbps network adapter directly to modem via CAT5 or better Ethernet cable.
- Plug in the modem power and wait for a Internet connection indicator.
- Reboot computer.
- Test Internet speed to multiple locations.

Ethernet cable means CAT5 or UTP for others or LAN cable. The connection should be LAN port of your computer to LAN1 of your router.

And you can connect also the internet cable usually ethernet cable from your internet provider directly to (ethernet cable)WAN port of your router to get signal from your internet provider.

Also if you get this message, this could also means you still don't set up or configure the router's settings to communicate when your LAN and router. They must see each other to access the router's utility webpage.

SOURCE: trying to install d-link

try user: admin and password: admin.

Assuming you are installing fresh, if it doesnt take admin admin.

Try resetting the device. Follow instructions to reset the Dlink router
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/wbr2310/Manual/wbr2310_manual_10.zip

A pin hole with Reset written over it, near to power socket.

After resettings any previous password will be reset to default
user: admin, password: nothing just hit enter

Hope this helps

SOURCE: set up router/modem as instructed

Problem can't be solved as described, a fixer would need more details.

What kind of modem/router is it?
What instructions are you working from so far (you say, "as instructed" so I take it you're looking at a Quick Start Guide of some sort?)
How are you connected to it?
What http address are you going to (E.g. some routers use 192.168.1.1, others 192.168.1.254 or various alternatives)
What happens when you enter that address on a browser?
Have you set your computer's address to a nearby address so it can talk to the route?

If I had one guess with not enough information, I'd say you need to set your PC to an address one different from the target you're going to.

I have a at&t modem wifi, and i want to connect the desktop emachine to have internet. how do i do it?

If you mean connect wireless then you need to buy a wireless card for the desktop.

If you mean wired (full speed internet) then get some Ethernet cable and plug it into the back of your desktop and then into your router and install the software your ISP has given you.

Usually the router comes preset so it will work itself once plugged in via Ethernet.

I cant install my router. The internet, power, WLAN, and DMZ lights are all on, but none of the Ethernet port lights are on, but when I try to complete the install I get the following error message: Unable...

If the ethernet light is not coming that means your router is not detecting your computer. Try to plug the computer on any other port.

To check if your ethernet ports are fine you can perform a loop back test. You can take a cable which is not connected to anything. Than put one end of the cable to one ethernet port and put other end of that same cable to any other ethernet port. If the light on the ethernet ports led up means your ports are fine and u need to reinsatll the drivers of the ethernet card on your computer. Else your routers ethernet port are not functioning. If that is the case you can try to reset the router.

Let me know your finding.

**If this works please rate else let me know in case of further help.**

Just to clarify when you say your computer does connect with an Ethernet chord you mean you are able to connect to the Internet? If so, you should be able to reach the management console and reconfigure the wifi by following these steps
Else when you say you reset the router did you try to reset it to the factory settings by holding down the reset button for 30 secs as shown here?

Have a D-Link EBR2310 How can I test it to see if the port to the to the computer is working? The port gren does not light.

You are saying you cannot connect through the router ... Change the ethernet cable and/or try other portson the router.

Does your computer connect to the WWW when you wire it directly? If it will work when connected directly then it should work through the router. That is your test.

Media disconnected

If you are using one box (or modem/router) only, when your computer says media disconnected, it means that your computer does not detect your modem.
You can try unplugging and replugging the ethernet at the back of your computer or laptop. make sure that the light on the ethernet port is lit up (especially for desktops, not sure about laptops though).
You can also do the same process with the ethernet cable from your modem/router. if your modem/router has other ethernet ports in it, try to connect it to other ports as well. If your computer still says media disconnected, try purchasing or borrowing a new ethernet cable.
Also make sure that your ethernet adapter is working properly and that media disconnected follows after ethernet adapter local area connection and not wireless connection.
Hope this helps!
