The bed moves down so that less blade shows on a skill saw. The locking lever is usually between the blade guard and the handle. Look for a lever and pull it up to unlock, then move the bed down to expose less blade, then push the lever down to lock the bed in place. Please supply a picture of the saw you are using.

SOURCE: dewalt miter saw .

Either the blade or the guard is out of alignment. You will have to check and find out which one is the culprit.

SOURCE: Unable to lift the saw blade Makita Miter Saw

Look at the pivot point on the rear of the miter saw for the push/pull locking pin. The pin is there so you can lock the saw in the down position for easier carrying. To unlock the saw, simply pull the locking pin out (Makita calls this the "stopper pin"). Then you can use the saw and easily raise and lower it for cutting.

As you might find it helpful to have, I have included a link from the Makita web site for a free copy of the owners manual that you can print or save for future use and reference. It has some handy info on use and care of your saw.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

you can try going to Dewaltservicenet.com and locating it that way but with only the serial number it would be impossible. Is there any numbers on it to indicate the model or partial model and you can pull up breakdowns that way.

How do I change the blade on model #17224 saber saw?

Are you talking about a reciprocating saw? What brand? If this is what you're referring to, then there is usually an Allen style set screw at the base of the blade. Loosen the set screw with an Allen wrench, and replace the blade. Retighten the set screw and cut away.

Jammed my 6230 bandsaw during a cut and now it won't start. Are their fuses I can replace?

Go to Milwaukee Tool website and try to check if you can download a manual or electrical diagram there. You can call or email them. Check the motor capacitor.
Are you using an old or new band saw blade? If it's old/dull, try different blade. If it's new, the weld might be really bad. Old Blade and Bad weld can cause the blade to jump off. I purchased band saw blades on www.sawblade.com . Great quality blades; they have porta band blades. Call them.

The diamond insert in the hub of the blade keeps falling out as soon as I start a cut. What is wrong?

DO NOT USE SAW!!!

1. switch off saw, remove cord from socket (positive electrical insulation)
2. lift table for maximum cut and check size of the washer holding the blade,
3. you should have holding nut with collar, collar is about 1 1/4 (32mm) diameter, then blade (diamond is actually universal reducing bush in some blades) and lastly you should have internal washer, again, about 1 1/4" (32mm) diameter. if your collar are smaller, you need to replace blade as not suitable for your particular model, albeit I am rather suspicious that you have wrong collared nut and internal collar. Please check if both collars are exactly this same diameter. Please check if collars cover diamond cut-out.
4. if you see discreptancy between description in 3, purchase suitable blade (external diameter is 7 1/4" (184mm), as you did not supply what model of your saw, therefore most probably shank is 5/8" (16mm),
5. mount internal bush (collar), will go correctly only in one way.
6. mount blade (pay attention to cut direction, cutting surface should be clockwise if you look at mounting shaft.
7. mount external flared nut
8. check blade for slippage and wobbliness
9. connect power cord and switch on/off
10. check saw blade againg for slippage/wobbliness
11. make test cut if 10 was correct
12. use normally

Do not forget that this is not a toy, it will cut through wood, ocassional nail and your fingers.

Opearating saw crate flying debris, always wear googles or facemask, you have only two eyes and there is no spares.

Please leave note how you go with this advice.

I have an old craftsman table saw. i believe the "brake" or gears a shot. the saw runs very loud and shakes. now no matter how much i tighten the blade the nut loosens after one cut.

With the saw unplugged and the blade tightened, using your fingers try to wiggle the blade side to side and lift it up and down. Other than a little flexing of the blade, there should be no movement. If you have much movement you have a problem and the saw is dangerous. If this is a belt-driven saw, then you may be able to replace the bearings on the arbor (the shaft the saw mounts to) or you may have to replace the whole arbor. If this is a direct-drive saw (the saw mounts directly on the motor shaft) then the bearings that have failed are in the motor and you are less likely to be able find and install replacement bearings. If you find the model number of your saw, you might be able to find drawings and replacement parts on this site:

I HAVE THE JET 414458 HVBS SAW.THE SAW CUTS ROUND STOCK CROOKED.IT LOOKS LIKE THEBLADE IS IN CONTACT WITH THE STOCK AT THE START OF THE CUT AND ABOUT .250 AT THE END OF THE CUT THE STOCK IS 1" IN DIAMETER

There are two possible reasons for your band saw to cut crooked.
1 is the set on one side of the saw blade has worn down and you need to change your blade, or
2 your band saw blade is not square to the bed of your band saw.

If the blade is brand new and it still cuts crooked then you need to square the blade to the bed. To check if the blade is square to the bed, lift the head of the saw up a couple of inches and take a square and set it on the bed. Slide the square up to the blade and to see if there is a gap between the edge of the square and the blade. Try to pick a spot on the blade where the tooth is straight or bent away from the square. If there is a gap you'll need to move both blade supports in or out until there is no gap between the edge of the square and the blade.
If you are unable get it squared yourself, contact the place you bought the saw from. They maybe willing to send a service tech out to do it for you. Some band saw blade makers are also willing to send a service tech out to correct any problems that you may have. Lennox is one such company that may send a service tech if you are using their blades.
Hope this helps you,

Crooked cuts

The bearings in your saw need to be replaced. I would contact a DeWalt store to obtain the parts or have them do the repair. You have an excellent saw there, well worth repairing. good luck.
