Right click my computer => right click properties =>click device manager => look for the sound, video and sound controller then double click it to expand. Right click from the sound, video and sound controller below and click uninstall, but before that you have to copy what's written there like high audio defination for example. After removing the driver as you can see above the File - Action - View - Help, click action and click scan for hardware changes and it will update your sound driver. If the updating not installed your sound driver you have to look for cd installer commonly along with your motherboard box. In case you don't have. You have to look for the internet, it's depend on your brand or model. Or after updating and driver installed but still no sound probably your speaker damaged. Have a good day

Hello i have my laptop dell n5040 xp win installed also dowload idt high defenition audio but still audio sound not working what did to install i dont understand. please help

Completely remove whatever sound drivers you do have installed, restart, download this: http://ftp.dell.com/audio/R302718.exe

Once downloaded install the sound driver I have provided the link for. If it still doesn't work, please post back here with your DELL service tag. This can usually be found on one of the labels on the underside of the laptop. I may be able to help further if you can provide that information.

.pgI lost my sound from

Hello,

Please make sure that the sound is not in mute. If it's unmute and still has no sound, try to uninstall and reinstall the audio driver. Drivers are located in device manager. Simply type device manager on the search box to find it. In the device manager, expand the sound video and game controller category, usually the audio driver is the realtek high definition audio driver or smart audio. Uninstall the driver and restart the laptop to take effect the changes. Restarting the laptop will automatically reinstall the audio driver. Test the sound.

Hope this works.

No audio device installed on my laptop

I'm not sure whether this is the exact same problem, as I was having, but mine just randomly quit while I was listening to music this morning. I got messages saying "No audio device installed", but when I went to device manager, all my audio devices said they were working properly. If this is the case with you, simply restart your computer. It may take a couple restarts, but this should work. My sound was back even before it finished shutting down.

If it helps anyone trying to get to the root of this problem, I am running XP on a Dell B130 laptop, with the following devices listed in Device Manager:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Video Codecs
Hope this helps!
