It is a British Telecom phone, so is unlikely to be fully compatible with Virgin phone service. The message is held with them, and just alerts to a message being there.
I had the same problem and my hubby managed to reset the phone by simply unplugging it from the electical network. Just wait for few minutes (the date goes back to 1 Jan 2005), then plug it again and try to dial a number. It should work.
Error 680--- No dial tone
A) Test modem by dialling a number through HyperTerminal or phone dialler. This will test the Modem without using Dialup Networking.
B) Make sure you are using the correct and/or original cable. Some modems used specific wiring which is not compatible with standard modem cables.
C) Check that you phone line is working with a normal phone.
D) Make sure the phone line you are trying to dial on is not a non-standard line, this can cause problems also.
E) If all the above are OK then get a new modem or test in a different location.
HELLO . AM JAMAL FROM SYRIA , I VE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THREE PREVIOUSLY USED XALIO 300 WHICH I BOUGHT FROM SOME BLACK MARKET. I SUGGEST U TO INSERT THE CODE ACCORDING TO UR COUNTRY , FOR EXAMPLE :

If you have a BT line and use the 1571 answering facility , when you have a message waiting the dialling tone changes from a constant tone to a split tone. This is to let you know that you have one or more messages waiting.
In order to get the dialling tone to revert to the constant tone you have to deal with the waiting messages in accordance with the options provided i.e Save, Listen Again or Delete. BT say the Split Tone is to let subscribers know when they have a message waiting. This should resolve the Fax problem.
