Our Frigidaire dryer will run and heat up but then part way through a cycle it will stop and the clothes are not dry. The screen still shows AD and the four lights are flashing. You can start the cycle again and the cycle will run longer and the clothes will eventually dry, but it never finishes a cycle. The drier the clothes are, the longer it will run. We ran a diagnostic and get an error code r5e-but this code doesn't show up anywhere to explain what the problem is. We replaced a high temp sensor(?) but that didn't fix the problem. Just trying to figure out what to try next.
Check your venting and lint basket. Check blower for lint build up and blower wheel obstruction., test by trying to turn the wheel manually by hand (should be easy) May have to remove cabinet or front/back plate to get to it)
Next check the heating element itself with a meter for continuity OHMS CLOSED CIRCUIT. If not its defective or has a short if its grounding out? Which in turns causes blown fuses or thermostats or overheating.
Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. 220 because if u only get half or 110 volts you will be able to run the machine which uses only 110 to run motor but not the heater which uses a full 220,
Check the thermal cut off, the cycling and the hi limit thermostats.
For continuity or OHMS. If no ohms or resistance they need replacement.
Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle. Which are reflected by the thermostats.

Hi
Thanks for
using FixYa. Error code AD means air/auto dry. This
type of dryer has no thermo fuse which is a fuse like part that tends to break
disengaging the heating element, there for the dryer has a busted heating element,
you’ll need to replace it then it should be good to go. Normally runs parts and
labor about 150. Please do accept the solution if the issue is
resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks
Rylee

To = Thermistor Open error.
The Thermistor resistance is very high.
Check for:
- Clogged lint screen.
- Restricted vent system.
- Check Thermistor resistance.
Replace themistor if out of range.
Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.
Hello Scott Joseph Brandt - Since you have already replaced the thermal limiter check your breaker or fuses. Some dryers are run by two separate fuses, one for power and one for heat-ours is. If it is not the power source more than likely the issue lies with your heating coil.
