Hi Marka,

The metric system is based on 10s.

The Imperial system is not based on 10s. For example, there are 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, and 1,760 yard in a mile, etc.

Typically inches are broken in halves, then quarters, then eights, the sixteenths, then thirty-seconds, etc.

Good luck,

Paul

8.81" is what in tenths? Please indicate exactly how in simplest form to calculate.

Well 8.81" is in tenths, 8 is the whole inches while .81 is .01 over 8 tenths of an inch as many rulers I have seen carry tenths this would be a say half a line division more from the eight tenths point.

you may do better converting it to mm which would be 22.3774cm or 223.774mm with a simple inch to cm multiplier of 2.54 though this I think is rounded up.
If you want a non metric answer then you are in small fractions which I have not seen used much for many years in general practice 32nds 64ths and 128ths is the highest I have seen but that was many years ago.

Hope this helps...............

I would like to know the difference in inches or feet for a refrigerator that is 20.9 vs 20.7

20.9 inches is just 2 tenths of an inch (0.200") LARGER than 20.7 inches.

One quarter of an inch (1/4") is equal to 0.250" That means that there is slightly less than 1/4" difference between the two appliances.

How do I do feet and inches calculations on the Casio FX-115ES Plus? For example, how can I do calculations like 10'-3" + 5'-4" + 11'-11" without having to convert the inches to feet?

You can combine all the feet together 10+5+11=26 feet
Combine all the inches together -3-4-11=-18 inches=-2 ft + 6 inches
26 ft -2ft +6 inches =24 ft +6 in=24.5 ft
You can also multiply each inch -value by 1/12
10-3/12+5-4/12+11-11/12=10+5+11 -(3+4+11)/12=26-18/12, continue

How to calculate cubic feet?

Multiply 21 inches by 14 inches by 10 inches to get 2940 cubic inches. There are 12 inches in a foot, so there are 12^3=1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot. Divide 2940 cubic inches by 1728 cubic inches per cubic foot to get about 1.7 cubic feet.

Alternatively, first convert all measurements to feet. 21 inches is 1 3/4 feet, 14 inches is 1 1/6 feet, 10 inches is 5/6 feet. Multiply them together to get 245/144 cubic feet, which again is about 1.7 cubic feet.

It's always nice when doing a problem two different ways gives the same answer.

The initial population of a town 2800, and it grows with doubling time of 10 years. What wil the population be in 12 years

The population doubles in ten years so the annual growth is the tenth root of two. The growth in twelve years is the annual growth rate raised to the twelfth power.

The tenth root of two is about 1.0718 . That value raised to the twelfth power is about 2.2974 . Multiplied by the initial population of 2800 gives 6433.

What this problem has to do with a printer, I have no idea.
