Defrost ge regrigerator

My GE TFX25JR side by side regrigerator is getting ice build up on the back wall of the freezer. I'm assuming something is wrong with the defrost mechanism. Also, this is my "garage fridge" and it I live in Texas, so it gets pretty hot out there. What should i do?

The most common problem with the defrost system is a burned out defrost heater. It is located behind the frz back wall usually attached at the bottom of the aluminum cooling coils which will probably be full of ice and frost buildup. You will need to melt all the ice off the coils with something like a hair dryer. The heater is inside a glass tube and can be tested with a multimeter or sometimes you can see the break in it through the glass. In some cases there are 2 or 3 heaters at different levels. Replacement kits should include as many as needed for your model. Replace them all. 2 other parts to the defrost system are the defrost timer (usually located on the front channel under the freezer door) or the termination thermostat which is a silver disk clipped to the top of the aluminum cooling coils with 2 wires going to it. Any of those 3 parts could cause the frost buildup but the heater is the most common.

GE GSL22JFTABS Frost buildup on back wall of freezer and ice maker not making ice

Your unit is not defrosting, causing the unit to build up ice and not allow the air to flow. There are 3 possibilities, listed with the most likely first.
1. The DEFROST HEATER in the freezer section, just behind the cover along the back wall of the freezer.
2.The DEFROST BI-METAL which is just about the HEATER, it is a small round thermostat that keeps the HEATER from getting too hot
3. If both of those parts are good, then you have a bad MAIN BOARD. The board regulates the defrost cycle, which replaced the older defrost timers.

GE side-by-side refrigerator tfx26ppdaww freezer cold, frost on back wall, fridge side warm, is it the damper? or something to do with the frost?

The Thermostat Defrost its not working anymore, it doesn't defrost anymore and it acumulate ice on the gap that flows the is in between the fridge and the freezer. so what you got to do is defrost your refrigerator and remove the back wall, and locate the defrost, cut it and take it to an appliance part store, and get a new one and just put it back and it should work like new!! :)

I have a ge gsl22wgph and the refrigerator side is not is not getting cold enough and the freezer side is not freezing. What is the problem?

First look at back wall of freezer toward the bottom and see if you have frost build up on the wall. If you do the problem is most likely the defrost heater and you will need to remove back wall of freezer, melt the ice from the coils and then change the heater at the bottom of the evap. coils.

GE 24 Profile refrigerator: The freezer part

my refrigerator goes into auto defrost every 60hrs for 45 minutes or till the bi metal(defrost thermostat) says it had enough....recently i had ice built up on the coil because my defrost thermostat was stuck open...

ice builds up because the moisture that comes from opening the door or food condenses on the cold coil...tempurature of the coil is below 32 degrees which will ice up the condensed moisture...

defrost is timed to remove this build up

Kenmore regrigerator

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.
