Many cd rom problems are the result not having the drivers installed, or drivers that may not work with a particular operating system. If you go here: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/site.workflow:SimpleSiteSearch?v=15&lang=en&cc=us&en=utf&q=3000+n100
you can check to see if there is a solution at the manufacturer's site for your particular machine.
If however, you check your computer and find that you do need to install your driver (I'll tell you how to tell in just a bit) you can download your driver here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?doctypeind=9&template=/productselection/landingpages/downloadsDriversLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo
Go to: control panel>system> hardware tab (top of system window)>device manager and check to see if there is a little yellow trianbgle with an exclamation point nest to any of the devices. IF so, you need to install drivers for those particular devices. You can get them all at the link I gave you above.
To install a driver, first download the drivers you need to your computer, remembering where you downloaded them to.
Go back to device manager (as explained above) and double click on the devices that have the warning next to them. Another window will open, and you will see tabs at the top. choose the driver tab, then click on "update driver" button. You will see the update wizard. Check the radio button "no, not this time", and click next. on the next page, select the radio button "Install from a list or specific location", then find where you downloaded the driver(s) in the window, and click "ok".
That's it. If it is not the driver that is your problem, then you may have to pull the drive and check the connection to make sure it is connecting properly. If it is, then the drive may have failed. There is nothing that can be done except to get a new drive.
Hope this helps.
Now double-click on the "System" icon then click on the "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button. A new window appears, and displays whether the device is working properly. If there are any errors, click the "Troubleshoot" button and follow the given onscreen instructions.
Check
the DVD that you are trying to use to and ensure that it is free of
dirt and scratches and the proper format compatible with your drive.
Now uninstall any drivers that may be on your computer from previous DVD drives.
Now download the latest driver updates for your DVD drive model from Lenovo website & install it.
Also check on Lenovo website that your machine has the minimum requirements to operate the drive.
Now restart your computer & check your DVD drive.
I hope issue has been resolved.
