Your local public library system probably holds a number of crochet pattern books with patterns for girls. Only you will know if a pattern appeals to you or not. I suggest you visit your local public library, ask to be directed to the crochet / crafts section of books and look through the pattern images in the books there. With a valid public library card you can borrow a number of books with patterns which interest you.
If you do not already have a library borrower card, you can apply for one when you are at the library and check out books at that time. To apply for a library card you will need a photo ID (like a driver's license) and probably some other form of ID, with you name and residential address (like a utility or credit card bill.)
You can also search online for free crochet patterns using your favorite search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, etc.), using the following search phrase:

Usually it is best to perform each step as stated in the pattern. Close the Puff stitch (follow the instructions for closing the Puff stitch), then Chain 1.
Hi Carol, you may find that the knitting community www.ravelry.com is helpful to you, lots of free patterns, yarn discussions and information shared between members and its free to join up.
