Depends if noise coming from inside freezer or outside, if inside ice could be touching bladed, outside could be condenser motor or compressor

Testimonial: "outside... surprising that it would be a compressor issue, given the unit is not even 5 yrs old... or am I being naive?"

Usually its something to do with the compressor and it's probably starting to go, you will have to get a tech to come in and fix it.

Refrigerator no cooling, ice forming on back of side-byside freezer

The refrig is freezing up. I suspect the defrost timer isnt working. The timer activates a heater in the coils which allows them to warm and be self defrosting. If the timer isnt working this wont happen and freezer becomes an iceball. Take the panel off inside the freezer side and you will see the coil froze up. Defrost these with a hairdryer then replace the defrost timer inside the refrigerator behind the light and place where you adjust temp. If that dosent fix it it could be the heater itself but the only way to know is try that first. Easy fix should be inexpensive
