Hmm, the netvista is an all in one - i think the video is built in to the mother board - and cannot be replaced or reseated. computer model number is 2179-77u

Thanks very much. I already have the manual and found that beep symptom - i have tried the memory cards in just about every combination, so i guess the whole thing is dead and just needs to be replaced. I might try changing the memory again, but it is a lot of work to open it up, change the memory, close it up and turn it on to hear those annoying 8 beeps and repeats - i suspect it is system board. I hate to just throw the whole thing out and replace it - i wanted to try to make sure it wasn't just the battery or memory - but i guess it would be more time and trouble to find a fix than a replace. I hate that. I wish i could find a repair shop that could help me, though.

8 beeps means video problem
Try reseating the video adapter
look to see if the fan on video adapter is working if it has one?

Remove the hard drive and RAM. See what it does. It should go into BIOS and complain. If it doesn't you have a motherboard issue as it won't POST.

I connect my IBM Netvista to electricity, the fan motor starts , but nothing on the scree.

Make sure all of your connections in the back are solid. If you still have problems post back with details (any beeps etc).

I was given a IBM netvista and I have to setup the hard drive what keys do I hit to get into setup

Hi,
Make sure the computer is off, hold down F1 and start the computer, that should get you into the BIOS setup.
If not hit the F1 key when you see the IBM logo, you may have to repeat this until you get in to setup as you have to be fast with an IBM machine.
