It is wise to set a password on your BlackBerry, just as you would on a laptop or PC.
After all, BlackBerry devices are similar to small personal computers.
They contain loads of information including files, phone numbers, dates and emails.
But when you forget your password you are presented with a tough situation the device will have to be completely reset to allow you to create a new one.
Come to terms with the fact that in order to reset your forgotten BlackBerry password you will lose all of the data on your phone.
A password reset wipes the device clean as a way to protect your information in case the phone is stolen it is a tight security measure that is built into BlackBerry phones.
Type in the incorrect password.
The BlackBerry will tell you how many more tries you have to enter the wrong password before it resets (you usually have between three and ten tries total.)
Continue entering the wrong password.
You may be prompted to enter the word "blackberry" a few times to continue this is to make sure that you (or a child ) aren't accidentally and unknowingly typing in the wrong password.
Allow the device to reset itself and shut down.
Try to restart the BlackBerry.
If nothing loads, the application software was removed as well and you should proceed to the next step.
If you see your normal screen, proceed to the last step below.
Connect the device to your computer via your USB cord (this comes with your phone) and load the Blackberry Desktop Manager software (if you don't have it download it at na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop).

Click "Application Loader" then "Add/Remove Applications."
Select "BlackBerry System Software" (along with any other applications you want to download to your phone) and then "Next."
Verify the list of applications you want to download on the next screen and click "Finish." Allow the Blackberry software to reinstall.
Enter a new password under "Options" then "Password" (or the similar choice) on your BlackBerry.

BlackBerry Username & Password
Adding an email to your BlackBerry might require you to log in to your BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service).
Some providers allow you to enter your email password in lieu of setting up a BIS account, but you will not be able to access BIS services anywhere but on your BlackBerry phone.
Once you create a username or password, it cannot be easily changed, but recovery is not impossible if you have forgotten.
To use BlackBerry's website to recover a lost password, navigate to BlackBerry.com, click on "Owner's Lounge" and log in in with your email and password.
Click on "Support & Services" at the top menu inside the Owner's Lounge.
A new page will open.
On the menu choices at the left, choose "BlackBerry 101" and the click on "BlackBerry Smartphone Setup".
Click on "Email Setup" in the menu choices in the middle of the screen. At the bottom, you will see a list of wireless service providers.
Click on your provider to access their BIS Web page.
Most providers also offer this link on their website.
This will open the BlackBerry Internet Service page for your service provider. For a forgotten user name, click the link beside "username" labeled "Require Assistance?".
This will provide you with information on how to contact your provider to recover your user name. This usually requires resetting your user name.
Try to choose a user name that is easy to remember and write it down somewhere safe.
Click the link labeled "Forgot Password" to recover your password.
A new page will open with two options to have your password sent to you.
If you know your BIS user name, insert it in the top space labeled "User name".
Alternatively, you can insert your BlackBerry PIN (located inside "Options" and "Status" on your BlackBery).
Click "Request Password," and it will be sent directly to your BlackBerry.
