How do i fix when i hook up hdmi cord and the screen wont display and when i hook up vga it does but i want hdmi for my ps3?

Did you hook it with HDMI or analog? My plasma was on the fritz but when i hooked it up analog it worked..ugly though compared to 1080P. Try a different HDMI cord as well

You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard. 1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video) 2. Select [ Video Output Settings ] 3. Select HDMI 4. Select Resolution 5. Select Screen Size 6. Save the settings 7. Reboot the console. This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though. Check the video connector on the PS3 for a switch to switch from composit video to HD video.

If you can get a display with the default setup (original cords) follow this procedure:

a) Plug in BOTH the HDMI cord and the other display cords to your TV.

b) On your TV, using the disignated video input (not HDMI) you should have the main screen

c) Go to settings, and then display settings. Set up your display to read HDMI. Your screen will go dark.

d) Quickly change your TV input from video to HDMI and it should still be displayed. Save the changes.

e) Shut off the system, unplug the original cords leaving in just your HDMI cord and your designated audio cord (preferably fiber-optic).

f) Turn it back on and you should be good to go.

Make sure everything is pluged in correctly and the Playstation 3 is on stand-by. The using the power button on the console hold it for about 5 seconds till you hear two beeps. And this will reset the display settings.

Don't hold it to long or it will go on stand-by.

Also try reversing the ends of the HDMI

Press the INPUT button on the remote or TV control panel until you find HDMI.
When you turn on the PS3 keep your finger on the power pad until an HDMI message apears on the screen.

When you hooked up the HDMI did you go into display settings and change all the PS3 settings to HDMI instead of AVI? I thought my HDMI wasnt working, just a blank screen but I could hear the sound, then it hit me..... change the video and display settings to HDMI and poof, there was the pic. lol

this is a very simple fix leave cords in your sony with ps3 on standby hold the power button on ps3 itself down for 10sec your ps3 will switch back to av cables

The Toshiba 32AV500U cannot display 1080p. Hook up your PS3 to your computer monitor, provided that it can display 1080p, or some other TV that can, then change your Video Output settings under Settings> Display Settings and uncheck 1080p, which will allow the PS3 to display in 1080i. Once you do that, then hook up the Toshiba via HDMI and it will work with no problem.
