Hi Scott,

On your PC, you'll need to go into the Control Panel --> Hardware & Sound --> Sound (Windows 7) and click on "Playback". Here, you'll need to change the sound settings to reflect the audio to be handled by the video card / audio chipset / HDMI jack on the motherboard. You should also check for other settings such as Digital Output that are usually associated with and HDMI jack on the card and not an analog jack.

As it is now (or is likely to be the case anyway) the picture is being handled by the HDMI on the video card / motherboard; but the audio is still coming from the the speaker jack(s) on the motherboard or audio card. Making the changes above will redirect the audio from the speaker jack(s) to the HDMI jack instead.

Good luck!

I recently purchased a new Samsung Blue Ray player. My previous Sony DVD player used the blue, green, red cords plugged into DVD imput, and I used Coaxial for sound. The Blue Ray only uses HDMI, which the...

Optical carries only 5.1 sound, no video. HDMI carries both video and sound. If your receiver doesn't have HDMI, check your TV for optical output. You can go BluRay to TV via HDMI, then TV to receiver via optical.

If you don't have optical out on your tv, you're going to need either a receiver with HDMI or a BluRay player with component output (blue, green, red).

Hello, when you are using HDMI you should not use any other connection to hear audio on the TV, the HDMI cable has the audio built in. What you need to do is to make sure you have some king of audion coming out of the pc and raise the volume on the TV. No audio from pc connected using hdmi

Are you not getting audio to the television speakers and the onkyo reciever speakers when connected HDMI thru the reciever or just the television. If it is just thru the television then it is because the reciever is grabbing the HDMI audio signal and converting it so it does not reach the TV. If it is both then try changing the HDMI signal output from PCM to DOLBY DIGITAL on the computer. Your reciever may not be able to process the PCM signal of the computer. Does the reciever show a PCM or DOBLY DIGITAL display when HDMI is hooked up to it?
