What to check when the Kipor 4,5kw generator slows down once you connect some things like iron?

From a couple of days my gen reacts badly when I connect the iron or the wash machine (at the moment of warming the water up). The engine is slowing down up to stop and the there is a lot of smoke coming out from the gen. WHen I run the engine it comes to the proper speed quite slowly. The voltage on the output is ok but I think there is a problem with the frequency, I tried to control it with the multimeter, it seems to be about 200hz. I have no oscilloscope to control the characteristic of the output. can you help me?

SOURCE: coleman 1850 sport, no/ low generator output

Hi,
The engine should run at 3750 rpm at no load. If that's OK then you may need to troubleshoot the capacitor inside the end of the generator opposite the rope. Since the thing has been stored for some time you may just need to flash the field of the generator to restore the residual magnetism in the rotor. The easiest way to do this is thru the 110 outlet but it's a little dangerous. Plug an old lamp cord into the outlet, start the generator, and momentarily connect a 9 volt dry cell to the wires, then shut the generator down and see if there is 110 when you restart it.
Regards,
Carl

Both the Hz and the voltage will be wrong if the engine speed is low. You need to use either a DMM with a HZ function to set the engine speed so that you get 61.5 Hz at no load, or use a tachometer to set the no load speed to 3750 rpm.

Those voltage readings MAY be normal.

The AC waveform may cause your meter to read inaccurately. You would need to use a TRUE RMS meter to accurately read the voltage.

The siple meters actually read the AVERAGE voltage and then are calibrated to mulltiply it by the "form factor" for a sine wave. OFTEN these generators don't produce a clean sine wave. A square-ish wave will read higher on the garden variety meters.

Compare the brightness of a lamp comparing to when run on your utility.

The frequency depends on engine speed ... yours is running a bit fast...check it under at least half load and if off, adjust the govenor slightly.

VALSI 5,500 WATT GENERATOR WILL NOT START

All generators need to be run once a month. All things from the tank to the and including the carb will get gummed up with dried out fuel. I have a whole house generator and a 5500 watt gen set on my motor home. I keep fresh fuel in the stand alone house generator in California in case of a bad earthquake. I drain the gas after every run and keep all vehicles full of fuel just in case. Run gen sets at least once a month or pay pay pay!!

Euro-pro iron steam genarator model # ep8001

I have a temporary solution that is working: Use WD-40 around the switch. Spray with the straw that comes with the WD-40. Let stand for a couple days, then turn the whole unit upside down and spray again, and let it stand that way for a couple days. If we could get inside, it could be more of a sure thing, but I had given up on mine and when I accidently hit the switch after siting for the last few days, , it came on!
