Resetting the Printer to Factory Default

Resetting the printer to factory default settings can be useful when

you are troubleshooting with the printer.

CAUTION Resetting factory defaults clears the page buffer, removes downloaded

fonts and macros, and returns all print menu settings to factory defaults.

To reset the printer to factory default settings

1 Press MENU until RESETS MENU displays.

2 Press ITEM until RESTORE FACTORY SETTINGS displays.

3 Press SELECT until the following message appears:

RESTORING

FACTORY SETTINGS

This message displays until the printer has completed the
initialization

Have you tried this? Turn the printer off. Then turn it back on. After it settles, with the right/left arrows adjust the indicator in the control panel window to either black/white copies or color copies. Place paper on scanner window and press the OK button. It should print the copy.

You do not need to reset ink level !

HiYou may need to do a maintenance check on your printer.Go to control panel and click on printers and scanners..There should be an option to do a clean...If you do a roller and nozzle check this should stop the smudging

Have you installed the printer to the wireless network and have you added network printer hp 4500 and installed it to your laptop?

I tried everything, even called HP and they tried to sell me a new printer. So about 6 hours into trying to fix it, I decided to just reset my router (unplugged it and let it reboot). It was fixed.

Press the Setup Menu button

Choose Setup Basic Settings - Press OK
Scroll and Select - Push OK on DATE and Time and set the date and time and press OK
