YES. ALL SEWING MACHINES DO STRAIGHT STITCH. EVEN IF YOU WOULD SET THE STITCH SELECTOR TO A ZIGZAG YOU COULD STILL SEW STRAIGHT STITCH BY SETTING THE WIDTH TO ZERO. OTHERWISE YOU COULD JUST USE THE STRAIGHT STITCH CHOICE.

Brother XL-3200 only sews a straight stitch.

Te 'handwheel' is the top knob on the right.
The 'Pattern Selector Dial' is below it.

If you are using that dial and it isn't changing the stich, it must have become disconnected inside.

My needle goes side to side but the stitches are straight stitches on a brother sewing machine

So your set up to sew zig/zag and only get the zig or the zag : )

Could be top thread tension is too high. Switch to a straight stitch and reduce tension until top thread starts to appear on bottom. Then go back to zig/zag and see if it sews properly.

If still dropping stitches, check the needle is not bent and is fully inserted into the holder. Clean the bobbin, hook, and race per machine instructions. Try reducing the stitch width and see if that makes any difference. If still not right then timing may be off.

Does a Brother VX877 sewing machine sew a straight stitch. If so how do I set it up?

The average stitch length is 2.5mm. This is the typical setting on newer sewing machines. Older machines usually give you a range of about 4 to 60 which tells you how many stitches per inch; the equivalent of 2.5mm is about 10-12 stitches per inch. The smaller the stitch length number, the smaller the stitch.

Straight stitch has peaks

Check your stitch pattern because you most likely have machine set to perform a blind stitch. chane your pattern setting to desired stitch and make sure you use appropriate foot attachment for the results you want. jimmy

Does anyone know how to set a Brother sewing machine for a straight low tension stitch?

Stitch length on 2.5 and stitch width on zero, and just loosen the top tension by a half number if you want the tension looser. If your machine has a stitch selector knob, make sure it is set to the straight stitch setting.
