Hello Jeff Poe,
Assuming you are talking about the MANUAL TRANSMISSION... simply because of the "FASTWAY" product you are posted under... (appears to be the old "three on the tree") column shifter.
And
Assuming ALL your
shift bushings are new & firm
You can have an assistant find and hold the
neutral
(fully disengaged... but middle of the
"H" position)
In the car: Have your assistant select the first & reverse positons. Under the vehicle: Carefully observe the throw in each direction.
Underneath at the transmission shift lever: Pull the cotter-pin and remove the washer from 1st (1st & reverse) gear shift lever.
Manually operate the shift lever to feel the exact center of its disengaged position (after assuring your assistant is holding the shift lever in the middle of the lever throw... adjust the lever to lengthen or shorten to precisely match that centered position.
If the vehicle has been used... very little adjustment should be required. Place the pivot pin, restore the washer and fit a new cotter-pin.
Repeat the process for the 2nd (2nd & 3rd) gear shift lever.
Hope this helps.
