I have a 2001 Maytag Gas Range, #8114P732-60. When turning oven on digital display reads 5A6. Won't turn on, as usual. Any ideas?

I can't find error code as said above

Thank you very much. This is an oven at my mother's house and the manual is long gone. I found out about the "Sabbath Mode" through researching the internet. I never knew such a thing existed! I got it rest by holding in the clock button for 5 seconds and then releasing. It reset fine. Thanks much again!

SOURCE: my maytag gas range have a error message 5a6. I

The error your range is displaying is actually "SABBATH", which is Sabbath Mode. This enables the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. Usually this disables the oven, but allows the consumer to still use the surface burners. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.

Somewhere in the owner/operator's manual is a section that refers to "Sabbath Mode". Since all ranges differ in features, you need to refer to the operation section of your owner's manual to find out how to shut the feature off.

If the model number you listed this question under is correct, this range is equipped with a Control Lock-Out feature, rather than a Sabbath Mode. To cancel the Control Lock, you need to press and hold the STOP/TIME and CANCEL pads down at the same time for 3 seconds.

If you can't find this information, or no longer have an owner's manual, you can download or print a copy for FREE at managemylife.com. Just enter your model number under the "Manuals" link and you will find it listed in .pdf (Adobe) format.

If you have questions, please post back with your correct MODEL NUMBER (if different from the one I provided) and let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Power Failure results in no oven or digital display.

The low voltage has ruined the CCU (clock) YOu will need to replace it. You can order the part via model # on sears.com

SOURCE: The code F1 appears on the digital display. Cancel

Here is some wisdom for understanding F1 fault codes.

In some models, there are subcodes that make diagnosis even easier.

Here's a simple explanation of what's going on and how to troubleshoot:

The F1 code indicates that:

a. The electronic range control (ERC) is sensing heat in the oven when in a time-of-day (i.e., not cooking) mode.

b. The ERC is receiving information to run multiple heat functions simultaneously.

Although different components (depending upon the model) could generate the code, simple and straightforward testing using your ohm meter is all you gotta do to test for it.

1. Check the oven temperature sensor. The oven sensor has to be within spec or it will cause the F1 code.
As an example of being out-of-spec, the ERC will generate an F1 fault code when the sensor shows 1650 ohms during a time-of-day mode.
This is equivalent to 350°F in the oven.
The resistance isn't high enough to generate an F2 code (runaway temp) or an F3 or F4 code (shorted/open sensor circuit).
The ERC monitors the sensor circuit after a heat cycle and expects the resistance to drop back to 1050-1100 ohms.
The fault code is generated when this doesn't happen. Checking the sensor circuit means also checking the harness,
harness connections and the sensor itself.

2. If the oven sensor circuit checks okay, then turn your inquisitive eyeballs to the touchpad.
If the range has a separate touchpad/keyboard, the keypad may have moisture that is shorting several circuits simultaneously.
If the F1 code is given immediately (instead of during or after a heat cycle),
remove the ribbon connector from the touchpad to the ERC after clearing the F1 code. If the F1 code does not return in five minutes,
then cast a suspicious gaze upon the touchpad/keyboard. Shorts may be caused by using an ammonia-based glass cleaner.
The touchpad surface will absorb ammonia-based cleaners that are sprayed directly on the glass surface. When heat is applied,
the surface material can break down causing shorts.
If you're gonna use ammonia-based cleaners on your control panel, then you should spray it on the rag and then wipe the touchpanel
-don't spray directly onto the surface of the touchpad.

3. On Amana ranges with a rotary temperature dial, be sure that the knob is in the OFF position when performing tests.

4. If these tests all check good, then replace the ERC.

We had some sort of electric power failure last night lasting only a few seconds, but now none of the control buttons on the gas range function. In the time window 5a6 shows. No way to use the oven.

Skip,

The fact that the display is 'ON' confirms you have power.

The displayed info probably is a 'code' for a fault/problem, but you did not provide a brand nor a model. Even if you had, odds are I do not have access to the list of codes & their meanings.

Try unplugging the plug from the wall receptacle. If you cannot reach the power cord next option would be locate the circuit breaker (single pole) which HOPEFULLY is labeled. Either way, try removing / turning OFF power for at least 10-20 seconds! The control's microprocessor may be locked up due to a very short power interruption.

If that does not reset it, I would call service or the manufacture. You can TRY requesting help over the phone FIRST! Good LUCK

Reading 5A6

I believe the display you are seeing is s a b or S A b which means sabbath mode, a feature related to Jewish religious requirements about work on the sabbath. Check the owners manual to identify how to turn this mode on or off.

We tried to change the time on the clock of our range. However a time isn't showing but the letters and numbers 5A6. How can we correct this? Thank you

You have inadvertently set your range to "Sabbath Mode". The display actually reads "SAB". This is a feature that allows the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.

To turn the Sabbath Mode on/off on most Maytag models you simply press and hold the "Clock" button for 5 seconds. These instructions should be in your owner's manual.

If this does not correct the problem for you, please post back with your model number (located on the back of the range or around the oven door opening) so that I may be able to assist you better. I hope this helps you.
