Here are the steps to remove the door cover from the door of your LG Microwave model LMHM2017ST:
Unplug the microwave from the power source.
Open the microwave door and locate the four screws on the inner edge of the door.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws.
Carefully separate the outer door panel from the inner door panel.
You will now see the door cover attached to the outer door panel.
Use a flathead screwdriver or plastic pry tool to gently pry the door cover off of the outer door panel. Start at one corner and work your way around the edge.
Once the door cover is removed, you can replace it with the brushed silver cover from the new door.
To reassemble the door, simply snap the new cover onto the outer door panel and then reattach the outer door panel to the inner door panel using the four screws you removed earlier.
Make sure to be careful when removing the door cover, as it can be fragile and may break if handled roughly.
Is this an over-the-range microwave oven? If so, you can usually remove the door by first removing the grill vent above the door (by removing 2 or 3 screws first). With the grill vent removed, you can usually remove the door by opening it and lifting it up off its hinges. Place the door down on a blanket. Using a putty knife, you can pry out the black plastic RF shield (or door gasket). This is the most tricky part, and if you are not experienced, you may break that plastic since it is rather brittle. And if you do break it or crack it, then it must be replaced or the microwave oven will leak microwaves. But once you've got that removed, then you should be able to see and remove the screws that hold the handle to the door. After you replace the handle, it's a simple matter to push the door gasket back into place and re-install the door.
Normally
you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo)
and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.
Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.
From the service manual:
Door Disassembly
1. Disconnect power to oven and remove oven door, (see "Door Removal" procedure).
2. Pry away choke cover, by placing a tool in the upper right corner of the door and gently prying outward on the choke cover. Continue to work around the door casing until choke cover is completely loose.
3. Slide latch assembly upward and to the left to release plastic tabs from door frame. Once latch assembly is loose the spring may be disconnected from the door frame.
4. Remove screws securing door handle and door frame to door panel.
5. Remove door frame by releasing tabs around entire door panel.
Remove door handle by placing a hand on door panel next to the top of the door handle. Twist door panel towards the inside of door and pulling on the top portion of the door handle in a quick jerking motion.
NOTE: When replacing door handle, the bottom portion of the door handle must be inserted first.

On MOST microwave ovens, you just have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The panel is pressed in place and can be removed by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel to pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimeter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful RF radiation.
With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and can easily be accessed with a screwdriver. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one (if required). Re-insert the inner door panel, gradually working your way around the perimeter of the door glass to ensure it snaps back into place and seats properly.
This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.
NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.

You don't have to remove door to remove panel.
Panel is held in by an outer plastic retainer which can be removed by carefully prying with a small screwdriver. I can be replaced by pushing it back in place after repair is completed.
If you cannot open door from the outside, remove cover and you can see latches. Pry up on latch which will let door open.
