You say it spins over fast so it sounds like its spinning over faster than you are used to hearing turn over.ould be that the timing belt has broken. If the timing belt breaks the motor won't have any compression and will turn over fast like all the spark plugs have been removed.Its hard to say for sure without knowing what car you have but if your oil fill cap is on the valve cover you might be able to look down inside the valve cover and see if the lifters are moving. The bad thing is some motors are interference motors and some are non interference motors which means if a motor is an interference and the timing belt breaks the pistons will bend the valves and the non interference they will not. If you register on Autozone you can go to their online repair guides to find out what motor you have. Hope this was helpful and have a great day

Mazda 121 1997 metro does not start
the starter motor on the engine cranks the engine fast.
or does not.
fuel never causes starter motor to fail (unless hydralocked)
car is in Australia or Europe. not USA 1.3L or 1.5L engine.

tell what the starter does.
the M/T transmission cars can be push started.
in 2nd gear.

what does turn over mean to you, (me means ZERO)
the words are
cranks fast. or does crank at all
or cranks fast but engine will not start or run or stay running or only runs 1 to 10seconds (IMMO unhappy)
we are blind here and deaf too
we can not hear your starter motor run or fail or be super weak (slow)

the starter spins (turns)
the engine many spin (turns)
and some people call turns over mean running engines, Turns means zero in the real world lacking qualifiers in the statement , sorry .

2000 toyota rav4 motor spins over fast but will not start. Weak fire as well
If it spins over fast like there is no resistance at all then you have a bigger issue. Could be dropped valve, timing, warped head, etc. The amount of compressioninside the cylinder will not allow it to spin over freely and fast.

i cant understand your symptoms. but...
no year car stated or country.
the engine is direct injection engine of 4.33L capacity.
diesel injected..
do not post about other cars and all that, (giving way)
tell what you do and car did. only.

your in neutral for some reason, and something happened what.?
my wild guess is engine stalled. (what trans, stick or auto?)
does not revolve,
what doesnt the starter or the engine.?
the starter motor cranks fast (huge current) and spins 300RPM
and spins the engine ,fast, and the engine starts.
the PCM (injection brain) does fueling.

I will do, cranks ok but dont start.
  1. check all fuses first.
  2. check for clean fuel filter.
  3. check for PCM errors. (diagnostic scans)
  4. Check that glow plugs work.
  5. test using TEST fuel (spray) did it start now.? or just for 3 seconds.?


if the engine fails to crank over (that mean engine crank shaft spins)
that that is a whole other, set of tests, (jumper cable starts are next)

videopix123, There are many reasons for a vehicle dieing at any given time. However, what you discribe here with the engine spinning fast leads me to think that the timing belt is broken. With the engine spinning fast sounds like there is no compression in the cylinders. When the timing belt breaks, a few valves will be left open and compression cannot build up and this will allow the engine to spin fast. You state that you "checked the timing belt by moving the top of cover and it seems fine and new." Do this again and have someone try to start the vehicle. If the belt does not move then it is broken and needs to be replaced. If this is not the case then, with my apologies, please feel free to resubmit your question. Good luck with this.

most fans are clutch fans and they work or are engaged by temp.most all will spin under really cold conditions.this is normal.but to be sure, with the motor off and key in your pocket grab the fan and see if it wiggles or has any slop. if not alls good
