Walkie talkies talk to each other. Try transmitting (talk to each other) so they receive a signal first. Do it in the same room. The try for range. It is not much. Even for a GMRS radio, these are low power and short range. Under 2 miles, must be able to "see" each other.
In the US, those radios are in the GMRS band and difficult, although not impossible for a business to use. The whole idea of GMRS and FRS was for citizens to have radio channels to use. While GMRS frequencies need to be Licensed by the FCC for all users, businesses are not usually allowed and a Taxi should not be on those channels. You could call the FCC, make the Taxi company
prove they have a legal license.
In reviewing the product, it appears that the batteries are inserted directly into the radio. (no case or adapter to fit a battery module in) Buy re-chargeable 2500mh batteries.
This was extremely difficult to find but I have located the manual for you on these walkie talkies. It will be easiest to just use the manual and follow the instructions. If you still have questions or problems please respond here and I will get back to you. Please rate my answer 4 thumbs up here on the site, it is very important to me. I would be forever grateful. Here is the manual:
