How do i change idler pulley .When i start engine a squealing noise begins. I also had smoke which smelled like burning rubber

After running for a few minutes turm the engine off and touch each of the idler pulleys. The hot one should be the problem or take the belt off and turn the pulleys by hand. It should be obvious which pulley is causing the problem.

The belt has been ruined. Basically there was to much load on the belt. You will need to replace the belt, maybe a 20 dollar fix and should take no longer then 15 minutes. Just make sure that before you go to the parts house, your remove the old belt and take it with you along with the model and serial number of the machine.

Maytag Neptune MAH5500BWW burn smell (doesn't appear to be hose)

if you have a maytag neptune washer that ran up until now you got your money's worth, that's the machine that put maytag out of business,if it's smoking and ripping the boot it sounds like the tub bearing is gone and you'll have to replace the washer,if it's load in the spin like marbles are rolling around in it that's the problem, but i wouldn't put a cent into that machine.

Maytag Performa washer stopped mid cycle

It will not be either , after emptying tub lean the unit back so you can see under it , remove the belt and turn each pulley/wheel with your hand , the pump is norm. on rear right corner and is usually the problem it will be hard to turn if bad , the pump is an easy fix, the pulley that is stuck is the component that is bad if not the pump. the large tub pulley should turn both ways with some effort , if not it could be the gear case causing this. Let me know if you have any questions.

Burning rubber smell

Even though manufacturers' love to advertise it, I personally would not load "too many items", as it may cause excessive normal ware and tear on your machine parts, motor, belt, etc.

Yes; the smell can be the belt and possibly your motor as well. The motor may be spinning, but the weight may be too much when the belt is engaging to rotate the drum. I would be careful not to burn the motor (About $120 - part only)

You should be able to access and inspect the drive-belt in the rear of the machine by removing an access panel (back of washer).

To replace the belt if fairly simple. Remove and re-install by wedging a long screw driver in between the belt and metal pulley (circular), while simultaneously rotating the pulley.

You may be required to make a belt repair if you start to have problems with your "washer not spinning" or "making a noise/not spinning"

Burning Smell - smoking coming out of it

I believe we tracked it down to the pressure switch mounted on the drain pump. The device had a strong electrical burn smell and is positioned where it could easily have smoked the basket. We're putting the washer back into service and if I have a recurrence I will post the information. BTW ... Replacement was simple and the part was $26 including shipping.
