I would tap on the motor first ( it is on the driver's side below/behind glove box).

If it doesn't start, I would tap on the relay which controls the fan. I can't remember if it is by the motor, or over on drivers side (next to fuse panel - but you wont' have a nice little panel to remove). If you turn on/off the AC, the relay should make a clicking noise.

Next step, remove the fan motor (only a few mounting screws/bolts and air connection. Then run some wires from the car battery to the fan to see if it works. Be careful, it is only 12 volts, but a car battery can put out some serious amps. Don't attempt if you don't have basic electrical skills.

If the fan works you know it is something else - probably the relay if you didn't confirm it is good. I had to replace several relays in my 94 max, maybe 1 in the 00 max, and the 02 has needed any yet.

Electric fan will not run its overheating ?

I would think the problem is the water temp sensor on the radiator. Disconnect wires from sensor and join them together. Turn ignition on and the fan should run constantly. If it don't run check fuse and if fuse is good then the fan will be at fault.

Cooling fans not working properly

And why do you think this is a problem, they do not run anymore than what is required to cool the engine, as it gets hotter the fans will run longer at a higher speed, but you will seldom see that except on very hot days.

My car keeps running hot. I have changed the radiator, water pump, thermostat and temperture sensor. It seems like the cooling fans are not working. I don't know what else can be the problem. Please help.

if you think it may be the cooling fans. then check the fan relay and fuse in fuse box. if they are ok! then run a wire from positive on battery to positive on fan connection, run another wire from neagative on battery to other connection on fan. if the fans are good, they will turn on. have a good day !! also be sure coolant is at proper level.

Fans stoped working

Check the fuse first. If the fuse is good, then turn the A/C on and the fan should run continuously. If it does not then apply 12 volts directly to the fan. If it runs your Thermal Relay is bad. If the fan does not run the fan itself is bad.

Cooling fans not turning on. Fuses good. Relays good.

The fan will only come on when the water temp. reaches about 80 digrees with the new water pump the temp. is staying low and the fan is not needed. Drive it a while checking the temp. guage if it over heats and the fan doesnt com on then you have a problem if not all is o.k.

Overheating/AC becomes hot

You need to check your fans first, I want you to  ck the fuses to your fans - out under teh hood is a fuse box and the fuses are marked, if you find a blown fuse you may have a bad fan motor. Look and you will see 2 fans. they both should run with the a/c on. Ck the fuse then ck the fan motor. The motor wears out and blows the fuse. Good hunting.
