Iron was fine this morning but now does not heat. Only the two small green lights flashing. Every thing else works just fine on the outlet.

This is the second and last Shark iron for me. The first one gave up the ghost after 3 months. The store allowed me to exchange it for another which has lasted about 2 years. For the price I paid, in my book, this is not long enough.

I do not think I will purchase any other Shark/Euro Pro products in future.

When I plug it in the Power light goes on as normal, but then when I press the button on top to select fabric (to start heating the iron) nothing happens. It does not warm up and the light starts on Power. Sometimes when I unplug it and wait, then plug it again it works normally, but when the auto shut off comes on it's even worse. The Auto-Off light will start blinking and as instructed I move and shake the iron so that it heats up again, but no use. it never comes back on. I have to unplug and wait untill the iron is completely cold.

Because of this Iron I was late so many times! It just works whenever it chooses to and the user's manual has no solution for the interesting personality of this iron.

Also this is my second Shark GI490, I liked the first one but it had the same problem. So I thought it was bad luck and got another one. This one is no good either.

I am very frustrated with this product.

On another review site only 3 out of 11 reviews of this iron were favorable. There must be hundred's of dissatisfied customers out there who, like us, assumed we got a defective one the first time. After a similar experience with an expensive Rowenta before getting the cheaper but still quite expensive Shark I am going back to the more affordable models and won't be disappointed if they don't last 5 years.

I've had mine for about 1 1/2 years. WOW what a disappointment! My mother has had irons for years that will never die. What's the deal. I guess I'm going back to the basics... no more fancy irons for me. What a waist of $60

Just got this iron yesterday - for the life of me, I cannot get the iron to turn on. The button to choose fabric just does not work! I am taking it back right now!

lights flash, but does not warm up

My Shark is about 2 years old and the steam button is stuck. I noticed it starting to stick but was always able to release it. Now it is stuck for good it seems. I tried to take it back to Macy's, and they said they dont carry it anymore and wouldnt take it back. Macys servce is going down hill. I wanted an even exchange. I too paid too much for a high end iron.

burst steam button sticks -- iron less than two months old. shark wants $10 pre-pd. for return S/H. plus it'll cost that much to send initially.

  • ICannotfixit Mar 03, 2009

I purchased this iron in 2008; one day it just stoppped working. Would not power on. Seem like I should be able to get a replacement iron. I paid quite a bit of money for this iron. It is not fair.

I bought this Shark iron last July and I even saved the receipt!!But I threw the box away. The water is leaking out of the bottom. I bought the expensive Rowenta before that, and that one leaked all over my ironing. And I cleaned these irons faithfully every month. I need a toll free number for Shark

Hi,
Most have an 800 number and are willing to make replacements directly to the consumer...call them and find out...

Will not light and will not heat up

Problems like this assume the iron is at fault. but may not be.

Check the wall socket you are using works with other appliances.

If you use the iron via an extension lead, check that the lead is working by checking with another appliance also.

Take out the fuse in the plug of the iron and put into another appliance to test its working and not fused.

Only if all is well at this point should you bin the iron.

Flat 'hot plate' irons are so cheap nowadays, so bin it and get an new one. The best are steam generator irons with a reservoir of water container attached. Mine cost £30/$60 so spend wisely.

Iron quit working in less than 1 year.

Bought my Shark G1400Z iron about a year ago. The iron caught on fire. Luckly I was only out of the room for a few seconds. What can be done about this?

I have had 2 Shark irons and both simply stop turning on

The cost of repair is more than the cost of a new one. Therefore, trash it and buy a new one.
