i have the same problem with my rangemaster 55 leisure. burner will not burn on full rate regardless of gas setting. suspect thermostat failure! Any idea of the cheapest place to buy one?

  • MandyW Jul 09, 2008

Yep, same problem but I can't even find the thermostat to replace it! Any ideas?

  • dillone Nov 05, 2008

how amazing - I have had exactly the same problem - I called in a plumber friend and he said its something to do with the ignition light not igniting the bigger flamw - some thing that needs to heat up etc

I haven't found how to fix it - I thought I'd try to ring them about spare parts etc as the oven was given to me...
any other thoughts on how to fix?

It sounds exactly the same as I am experiencing on my oven of the same model. My theory is that the full flame gas is controlled by a thermostat, and that this has broken hence why the oven only stays on preheat. This will be a matter of a replacement part. Most likely the thermostat is a bi-metal strip that, because it has heated and cooled so many times in it's life it has simply finally given up. Try searching online for the correct part and get a corgi registered fitter or another suitably qualified fitter to come and replace it.

I would recommend Sussex Cooker Repairs wholeheartedly. I 'phoned them on 01273 420134, had the part sent by mail and with their telephone help installed it in just over half an hour. Total cost £60.33.

Having it replaced by Rangemaster it's the FFD part going to cost £140 inclusive of labour , parts and VAT so a lot cheaper than a new cooker. I've had my rangemaster for over 10 years with no problems so don't want to part with it. Ring the firm they were so helpful.

Just had the same issue here in the UK. Rangemaster 55 Leisure, over 15 years old. Rangemaster do not repair themselves, but farm out to two other companies. Both refused based on the age of the cooker. However Rangemaster spares have ordered me a new SSD (safety cut off device) which is the issue - not the thermostat. Their number is 01926 457400.
A registered Corgi gas fitter has said he can fit it for me.

Instructions for lighting grill for Leisure Cooker GR6GV MKII

Have your flame next to the pilot light before turning on. Hold pilot knob in while lighting. Hold it in for about 30 seconds once it is lit. Then you can turn it to the on position and set the temp.

Just bought a Leisure Gourmet Classic gas cooker. Connected the gas and plugged it in but none of the burners will light. The ignition is working but no gas is getting through. Any ideas folks? TIA, Andy

I had a similar problem when my new Leisure cooker was installed last December. The burners would light when I held the knobs in but when I let go the flame would go out. The engineer took off each of the burner knobs and stuck a small wad of aluminium foil between the inside of the knob and the contact on the front of the cooker - he said it's a design fault and the gap is just a bit too large for contact to be made reliably. This fixed the problem and I've had no trouble since.

Gas cooker keeps igniting

Sometimes when I clean my cooker, and it gets damp, mine ignites like that. It soon stops after it dries out. Give it chance and see.
